I have 2 ATI 4830, one is plugged into PCIE X16 and the other is in PCIE X4.

I have the crossfire bridge connected and it worked first time and windows detected both cards and enabled CrossFireX through ATI CCC. Played a few games and it worked just fine. But i shut it down then because i went out, i come back to go back on and now it doesn't work.

Both cards start up just fine and it displays on the first card in the X16, but when i plug it into the card which is in the X4 it doesn't work.

So i swapped over the card which was in the X4 into the X16 slot and it worked fine, i plugged it back into the X4 slot whilst leave the X16 slot empty and it still displays fine. But when i plug both the cards back in, the card in the X4 slot doesn't want to display.

Device manager in Windows 7 only picks up 1 card. But the card which is not detected is heating up with the fan spinning, so it means it's working.

I'm at a big loss here and require some help lol!

Does the Catalyst Control Center show crossfire as enabled? Have you installed the latest display drivers?

Nope. It did when I first put it in crossfire. But after shutdown and start back up, I lost the crossfire capability completely and device manager only shows 1 card.

I plugged the display port into the 2nd card and powered it back up again but nothing on the display.

Both of the cards work fine if only 1 is plugged in either of the pcie slots.

But when I plug 2 cards back in the other doesn't wont to work but its heating up fine so there is power.

There is probably no problem with your board. Some boards support x16+x4 crossfire while others must be x16+x16 which sounds like the case on yours. Personally I would have just used both 16 slots for the graphics because that is basically what they are there for.

Well, my motherboard only has one X16 and one X4 PCIE slots. Strangley that it works first time when i fit them in and enabled CrossFire and noticed about 15 FPS more in games. but after i shut it down and back on, the 2nd card that i put in, failed to start, "no display coming from it" unless i take my first card out.

I will say though which i nearly forgot.

Would increaseing the PCIE frequency have anything to do with it? because i did accidentlly increase the PCIE to 150MHz one time becasue i overclocked the FSB which bought the pcie up also when i left that Sync thingy on.

Would that have anything to do with it? Chipset damaged maybe?
