crossfire help

Hi guys, hope somebody can help
I just got another xfx 4890 and have been trying to crossfire it with my other xfx4890 but just keeps crashing and won't even boot up, i've tried the cards seperately and they both work and tried both slots with both cards in each and all seems fine on their own, i've tried 4 different crossfire ribbons. i tried uninstalling the drivers and it starts to boot then gets to just before my desktop and then it crashes and reboots immediately, no BSOD or error messages, i also tried in safe mode and once the 2nd card is enabled and restart it does the same and crashes and reboots.
i hope its something really simple that i have maybe forgot to do cuz i'm at my wits end

Even though you have a good PSU with plenty of watts....still sounds like a PSU problem...how old is this PSU?

its not that old, roughly about a year old tops

btw i'm using ccc v11.7
8.872.0.0 is the drivers for the card

It does.

You aren't overloading a rail are you? ie Putting both cards on V1 instead of evenly distributing etc?





But since it's an XFX, it could easily be one of the cards.

A problem card is not always apparent immediately. It took me months to work out the vregs on one of my xfx 4890's was damaged, causing intermittent bluescreens, blackscreens, hard freezes blah blah.

i just got my 2nd card, brand spanking new. I have tried the cards in the different pci-e slots and both boot up and work properly on their own.

With both cards installed can you boot into safe mode?

safe mode is the only way i can get my system to boot up with both cards and if i enable the 2nd card through device manager it then crashes immediately, if i uninstall all the ati drivers with driver sweeper and restart, it then installs generic drivers then tells me to restart and then gets to almost the desktop and then just crashes and reboots

Have you got another power supply you can test with? Sounds like its overloading then the psu shuts down...even though you have a quality psu it still could be a dud....

my mate had borrowed my psu when i was on hols a couple of months back and he had it running gtx470's in sli and it worked no probs.

It would be a very odd problem, but it MIGHT be the motherboard.....or possibly one of the cards has a bad crossfire bridge....

there only needs to be one bridge, right? cuz i have used 4 different ribbons and swapped them around to no avail

Might be time to contact XFX and see what they have to say...I have a crossfire motherboard and a XFX4890, but that doesn't help much....know anybody local?
