First off lemme give you a few specs of my computer in case you can determine right off what the problem is

Gateway - model GT5656
AMD Athlon 64 X 2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ 3GHz
3GB RAM
GeForece 8600 GT graphics
Wide screen HD monitor currently at 1440 x 900 resolution

Okay now the problem is when i play Crysis even on MEDIUM i get laggy/choppy gameplay and i checked the fps (this was a long time ago) i don't remember what they were but just that they were skipping around. I don't know that much about gaming but i figured more ram might help, plus i wanted more ram regardless because my downloads are only like 400kb/s.
I already ordered enough ram so that my total will be 6GB. Yes i know that i will have to take the other stick out bla bla bla i already calculated that. I'm not 100% sure how good quality it is but this is what i bought: 2GB PC4200 533MHz DDR2 SINGLE STICK 2GB PC-2 4200 RAM - eBay (item 130315129371 end time Jul-26-09 01:02:12 PDT)

Anyways getting to the point, tomorrow i will have enough to buy another one of those to have a total of 7GB ram is it worth it? will a 1GB increase even help that much? (and yes I'm running 64 bit)

Thanks

Firstly, RAM does not influence download speed ;)

Secondly, that RAM you linked to is unsuitable as it is only 533mhz whereas according to the Gateway specs for your machine it uses DDR2 PC-5300 667mhz RAM. Mismatching RAM speeds is a recipe for instability.

Furthermore, it appears your motherboard will only support 4GB maximum. The highest speed RAM it can take is PC-6400 (800mhz)

If you can cancel any orders, I would. Your best best option would be to find 4x1 GB sticks of 800mhz Ram.

Gateway Support - 1015002R*Gateway GT5656 Desktop Computer
Gateway Support - Components list for 1015002R

At any rate, 7GB would not help you performance wise. It would likely hinder it.

The biggest frame rate killer in Crysis are the shaders. Also make sure you have Anti-aliasing off. I'd also lower that resolution as well. Keep trying a combination of MED/low to find an acceptable level.

Sorry for the bad news mate, but that rig will struggle to play Crysis smoothly with any decent graphical levels :(

Above Post is correct,
Its your Graphics chipset that is letting you down.

Have you tried lowering the resolution to say, 1024x768,
that and try turning off V-Sync, AA (Anti-Aliasing) and AF(Antiscopic Filtering)

what do you mean my motherboard can only handle 4GB ram?

Its because most motherboards have a limit of how much ram they can use, if yours is 4 GB that means that is the max RAM that you can get to work on your computer.

Honestly, 4GB is more than sufficient for everyday usage. Most games rarely use over 2GB on their own anyway.

To boost your speed a bit, look for some DDR2 PC-6400 800mhz RAM with a CAS latency of either 5-5-5-15 or even 4-4-4-12

Some examples: (a bit pricey though)
Corsair Memory Gaming Mem - 5-5-5-15 800MHz CGM2X2G800 - eBay (item 300331123301 end time Aug-16-09 12:03:09 PDT)

CORSAIR, CGM2X2G800 Gaming MEMORY - 5-5-5-15 800MHz - eBay (item 250394912781 end time Aug-20-09 13:07:50 PDT)

OCZ OCZ2M8002G PC2-6400 CL 5-5-5-15 DDR2 800MHz SODIMM - eBay (item 370204660582 end time Aug-19-09 00:58:21 PDT)

It should do, but contact the seller and ask for more info regarding the cas latency speeds.

levelchaser.....

Smartyball has given some excellent advice here ;)

you dont need more than 4gb of RAM where games are concerned.

Crysis is very poorly coded, even on supercomps Crysis can deliver horrible performance in certain areas....

Warhead was everything Crysis should of been.

Honestly most of you guys don't have the specs to run Crysis properly. When people say it's poorly coded that is just an excuse that people use who don't have the specs to play it. Crysis is not poorly coded at all.

I've played through both Crysis and Warhead 30 times plus and the game runs perfectly for me at max settings 1680 with 4XAA. And I never get a single crash or lag.

Anything less than a 200 series GPU, highly overclocked processor with 4GB Ram won't play it very well. The ability to run that game at max settings is the true test of a gaming computer. The game is designed like that on purpose.

Ram is not going to help you play Crysis, get a better videocard.

I played Crysis with 2GB of ram and a overclocked XXX XFX 8600GTS for most of the game, and it worked fine, but with medium and some low settings, using a lower than native resolution and all vsync, AA and all that disabled.

If you could, I'd recommend keeping your current 3GB of ram, or upgrading to 4GB, but main thing would be to get a better graphics card. ur best bet would be soemthing like the 9800GT or GTX, or the ATI 4850. $80-100 for that and you'll be running just fine.

yea chev, it's not poorly coded, but then again it's not coded GREAT either, there's many updates and changes that help the game a huge amount. you have a good system and should be fine on Crysis tho.

Also Chev, I can't PM you for some reason, can u PM me. How does that PC-9600 run on your 780i?? stable. I wann get the OCZ 9600 Low Voltage but not sure my 750i can handle it.

Honestly most of you guys don't have the specs to run Crysis properly.
Quite a number of people on these forums have the specs to run and play Crysis.

When people say it's poorly coded that is just an excuse that people use who don't have the specs to play it. Crysis is not poorly coded at all.
I'm not sure that I would agree completely with that. While Crysis did/does push a rig pretty darn hard...there are games out now with better graphics that get better frame rates on rigs today.

Anything less than a 200 series GPU, highly overclocked processor with 4GB Ram won't play it very well. The ability to run that game at max settings is the true test of a gaming computer. The game is designed like that on purpose.
Again, I'm not in complete agreement here either. I have a quad core (Q9550) with a minor overclock and a GeForce 9800GTX+ (512MB and not overclocked) that runs with almost everything at high at 1920x1080 on my box under 64-bit Windows 7. And back in the day when Crysis was released, these 200 series GPU's didn't even exist.

Static, you'll play it just fine.

Yea Pparks.. I'm not sure about that either. but he does have a point, and the game wasn't designed like that completely on purpose, but it was technically a Next Gen game in a way, they wanted a game that would help cause a fire under Nvidia and ATI to release better cards, instead of every new release being 7-10% improvements.. we want a real upgrade.. and the 9800GT to the GTX 260 was a great upgrade.

Also that quote about anything less than a 200 series, high Oc and 4GB is also right, but wrong. As the person playing and what type a PC is needed also relies on how well the person wants it to play, and what size screen, my neighbor has an old 16" CRT screen, and an old HP PC with a AMD 4800+ and 3GB of ram. I added a 9600 GSO and it plays fine.. but then he has a low resolution.

Anyone with a screen close to mine (24" LCD) will need a 200 series or similar graphics card to play it and enjoy it.. I did used to play Crysis on dual 22's and that was a blast, and my single 260 did ok.

yea chev, it's not poorly coded, but then again it's not coded GREAT either, there's many updates and changes that help the game a huge amount. you have a good system and should be fine on Crysis tho.

Also Chev, I can't PM you for some reason, can u PM me. How does that PC-9600 run on your 780i?? stable. I wann get the OCZ 9600 Low Voltage but not sure my 750i can handle it.

The pc2 9600 runs excellent for me on my 780iFTW board. Makes for a very snappy system and has pretty decent Everest bandwidth test numbers.

I've been helping someone overclock the 750i FTW with a Q6600 and can't seem to run the memory at 1200 if he is over 1400 FSB. It could be a limitation of the CPU he's using but it's hard to tell for sure.

There is also a new bios out that is supposed to help with memory speed for the 750i FTW.

GSkill just came out with some low voltage pc2 9600 of their own. I'm using the higher voltage pc2 9600. You have to know how to use the dividers for these types of memory speeds no doubt.

And yup, Crysis runs very well for me indeed. I don't need to use any of those Crysis game mods either. And that is just using a single GTX280. I'm kinda holding out for the 300 series cards. ;)
