I've spent so many hours trying to get these games to work that I'm close to giving up. So here goes my last attempt.
I'm on a Toshiba laptop with Windows 7 64 bit installed.
Ram: 4 GB (3.8 available)
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3CPU 2.53 GHz
If you need to know more let me know. I've found lots and lots of people posting about this, some of them found a solution to the problem many didn't. The solutions I found didn't seem to work for me.
When I open Steam and try to launch one of those games it doesn't launch. It says:
Video mode change failure.
the game has detected that the previous attempt to start in openGL video mode failed. The game will now run in software mode.
I click OK and nothing happens.
I've tried running it in every possible compatibility mode. In combination with every possible screen resolution. It doesn't help.
I've also tried disabling the DEP.
I tried this:
"Alright, as you can see above, you can’t simply disable the feature with a few clicks (that would be too easy, ha!)
Open the command line: “Start” -> enter “cmd.exe” into search field and hit enter.
Simply run the following command to disable it:
bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff"
And also added the .exe file (steam.exe) to the DEP list in performance options and selected that to except those.
(I've also tried adding the hl.exe (when I tried installing a cracked version of the games but that didn't work either) back to Steam now)
There's other stuff I've tried a while ago but can't remember what that exactly was.
Hopefully someone can tell me what to do, getting desperate....
