CS:S & Vent issues on Win7 HP

OK... so I just went from XP to Win7.

Updated everything, installed drivers... (downloaded most from websites) got all Win7 drivers.

Install Steam.
Install CS:S
Install Ventrilo

Open my vent server... ping normal. 60
Start CS:S join my server in Chicago..

Can't join a team, lags out. ALT tab out to desktop. Ping @ 12,000 in vent
ALT tab back in. I can join a team, so I join. Freezes again.
ALT tab out and back in... I can choose a model, so I select one. Freezes again. Alt tab out, vent ping still at 10,000 +

alt tab back into CS:S
and I'm ingame... lagging around skipping around the map.

can't play at all. whatsoever

anybody have help! i have playoffs and I need this **** working!!

Do you lag when you are in vent AND CSS. Have you tried playing CSS without ventrilo, and vice versa?

I lag in CSS with vent open and not open.

Right now... I'm in vent and I'm sitting at a 150 ping. Way above normal. And CSS is not running. I can't take this anymore.

Have you also searched for issues regarding ventrillo and Windows 7...

How about your drivers for your ethernet card...are they correct and working?

I'm using a Linksys wireless USB adapter. My computer isn't in the same room as my router/modem. Everything should be up to date.

Update the drivers regardless for the adapter...also search for any issues regarding that adapter and Windows 7

Nothing I can find. I had to install Vista x86 drivers. Linksys doesn't have Win7 ones up on their website.

The wireless adapter I'm using is WUSB54GC.

I used the CD. But had to go to Device Manager and manually update a driver from CD because the installer wouldnt work??

I just installed that driver. It worked on the install, tried playing CS:S and got the same results as before.

Ok try this goto the steam folder and right click steam, go to compatiblity settings and disable visual compostion. I know there is another one under it to disable I cant remember it off the top of my head Im at work with no Win 7 machine this will turn aero off when you start steam and see if it keeps it off with CSS and if that helps.

I'll point you in the direction of another temp fix... As wireless B/G modes only support 50mbps (52 or something) that's the TOTAL for the network.... So how many people are using wireless on your router? Also if anyone is on a LAN connection and you use heavy wireless they sometimes can have 2 options. 1-LAN takes priority or 2-WAN locks up lan due to encryption because of the router. All this does what you say? Gives you ****ty ping. So my reccomendation? try a land line.... If that doesn't work try flashing the router with DD-WRT firmware. If that doesn't help, get a new router. When Cisco bought Linksys they ****ed up the routers bad, making them crappy pieces of ****, 2MB flash and 4MB ram, ****TY!!!
