Hello there,

One again I am calling for your infinite knowledge to solve a problem I have with my computer.

I currently run on Windows 7 32 bits. I recently changed my configuration and because I had a very good discount on RAM I bought 8Gb for almost the price of 4. I know that 32 bits systems do not use that much RAM.

Since I upgraded my computer I have a few problems with all my 3D games like Witcher 2, Hawken, Skyrim, Borderland 2, etc... I can play for a few minutes / hours but it randomly crashes to desktop at certain point. The crashes are silent. In Hawken I got a "Out of memory" error.

About Borderland 2, I reduced the graphics details and now I can play it correctly forever. For Skyrim, the more mods I install, the faster the game crashes. In Hawken, I had to reduce the graphics quality as well and currently in The Witcher 2 I am investigating to know what happens. Besides of that I can play The Walking Dead and Prison Architect forever because they are not so demanding memory wise.

I suspect that because I have 8Gb, some games might actually try to allocate those 8Gb but run into problems doing this because of my 32 bits limitation and that make the games crash.

What do you guys think about that ? Should I plan to buy a 64bits Win7/8 OS ? Anything I could do to push my investigations further ?

I think you can have my computer specifications in my profile.

Thanks a lot for your help !

Hello Dude,

Thank you for your answer.

No I am not overclocking. I monitored my temperature when modding Skyrim and it never went up above 60° (140F). I just tested Witcher 2 by setting the graphics quality to low and was able to play for the last hour with no crash at all.

So my conclusion is that when I go up with the graphics quality that everything goes wrong. But I still do not know why except Hawken that displayed me the "Out of memory" error.

Anyway to test the memory usage ? Or to know if it is allocated incorrectly ?

Do you know if I can find a Win7 64 bits ISO online so I could test win a new 64 bits installation ?

I believe skyrim with mods can use a lot of memory, so x64 can help you there. I recommend after the clean install you leave the pagefile set to default by windows, this should help as you have a good system.

What type memory do you have?

I also meant to ask, how are the GPU temps?

Hello Dude,

I have 2x4Gb G.Skill 1866Mhz PC 14900.

The temperature I gave you before was the GPU temperature. Around 60 - 65°C.

So tonight I reinstalled Win7 64 bits and after a few hours of installation I now have a running system with all my older softwares and games installed (love Steam for that). I already tested some Witcher 2 with full details, it was laggy but it didn't crash during the 15 minutes of playing, good start.

Tomorrow I will test more with Hawken and especially Skyrim with the mods but I have to reinstall all of them (80+) so it will take some time but Skyrim is the best test because it crashed systematicaly and the more mods I installed the faster it crashed.

Will keep you up to date.

Thanks for your help so far.
