Cursor Changes Directories in Explorer Without User Action

my suggestions was, IF u had installed third party mouse's drive, it should be UNINSTALL and use ONLY windows drivers. after that GO TO setting and RESET it normal condition

OR

look for FUNTIONS hovering mouse options. that should settle ur mouse problems.

Good idea. Never thought of a driver conflict issue.
In checking DP>Mouse see I have two drivers:

a) HID Compliant Mouse
b) Microsoft Wheel Mouse

Not sure where (a) came from other than the "Microsoft Wheel Mouse" I'm using is in a USB port.
If can eliminate one, not sure. Will do some research as never installed separate driver
when I loaded Win 7.

Re: Hover, don't see anything unusual in CP>Mouse

Yes well I have been on that hobbyhorse of mine and for the sake of a few dollars or borrowing a kb and mouse it is just worth a try.

Now personally I have never found that any old mouse software left behind has cause any conflicts but possible in your machine and I find the Windows update feature a bit of a dull feature because who is to know apart from their updates where the drivers ae coming from and indeed there are not many times when one gets that Window has determined blah blah blah and the only way is to go to the manufacturers site and get it form there. I use Microsoft KB (in particular) and occasionally a mouse I fid them not very reliable and install the Microsoft keyboard centre software Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Centre | Microsoft Hardware
Now Logitec have similar downloads for their gear and as I saida cheap one would soon show if it s the mouse or KB .

There is and alternative and that is you have a PS2 ports on that machine and go ahead and connect a PS2 KB and mouse if you have access to one. I keep an old one from a while back when it was a common connection and it has got me out of strife on many occasions whether I am fixing my own other others machines. There si also an adaptor you can get for PS@ to USB See pic/s to see what sort of connection I mean.
Now I have used this connection as I said when all else fails and I would be surprised if your board does not have these connections.

ICIT2LOL:

FWIW I have PS2's available on system. Have Not got or tried other keyboard or mouse yet -- as other non-computer issues.
However, I am mostly sure it is Microsoft OS and or Explorer in trying to make things easier for user which is a PITA for us old timers.

Went into Explorer a minute ago, and before I could click on a subdirectory cursor jumped to libraries.
Also lost a folder (directory) today when creating a new folder -- ended up as a subfolder under a folder I had just copied / pasted but had to write a program to search the entire drive to find where it was located.

Win 7 Explorer Search *&^%$ IMHO, compared to XP. Again M$ trying to make things easier - but - again making it more difficult and less intuitive. However in this case, either search programs (XP or Win7) would Not have found the folder.

I also may be at fault because my interaction with system may be faster than most since I can type, which I understand is Not something taught anymore since typewriters are obsolete.

One thing I've noticed (assume this is M$ trying to make things easier) is at times (no rhyme or reason) Explorer clears the entire Treeview and then shows just the last major folder (directory) at the top of the treeview. To get the others to show, one needs to again click the drive letter.
Anyone else observed this?

Just stumbled across this:

CP > Folder Options > General Tab > Checkbox "Auto Expand to Current Folder"

Will try with this "OFF" for a bit as had it checked.
Initial testing seems better - but - haven't tried "New Folder"
