Hello. First time poster hoping someone can provide me with some insight. I have a 64-bit HP dv6-2155dx, with 4 GB RAM and I am running Windows 7. When I have multiple Internet Explorer tabs open, and I am scrolling over the thumbnail previews of these tabs down in the taskbar area to see what pages are currently open, every few minutes or so my cursor will hang/freeze for a split second and then go skip back to normal movement. It doesn’t matter if I am using my touchpad mouse that is on my laptop or a wireless mouse via USB. It’s becoming kind of annoying. My question - Is this a common issue?
Is it stemming from typical high CPU usage and I should "just live with it"? Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide me.

Hi dear,

Can you check your system Performance when you get this problem? (CPU Usage, Memory usage or ..)
By the way, Try to using another browsers like Firefox (This feature is available on these browsers by default or adding add-ons.)

Maybe Microsoft has some solution with this issue on their website, but you can also check this link out :

The problem is with the cursor getting stuck while I'm browsing.
I looked at the Task Manager while it happens and I don't see anything out of the ordinary with CPU etc...

I tried browing with Fire Fox but the same problem persist.
I just tried to restore my computer to an earlier time (like a month ago, when this problem for sure didn't occur) but it didn't help...

It happens when IE is closed as well... that's why I thinks it's a windows' 7 problem rather than IE...

The sound is like that ? ... Beep ...
I faced this beep before, it happened to me when the application was hanged an i clicked massively on it.
I don't know why but as i upgraded my ram i didn't faced it anymore.

Sounds more like you have an underlying problem. I suspect one of the drivers for your computer is crashing, probably mouse. Hard to say, review Even Viewer. Or Reliability Monitor.

I'm experiencing the same problem, I have an HP Pavilion dv4-2167sb running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

The symptoms are:
Keyboard/mouse/trackpad input freeze for 1 to 4 seconds when sometimes hovering over taskbar items to show their thumbnail previews
It can happen when hovering over any program in the task bar, not just browsers
It can also happen if you right click on an item in the taskbar to look at the jump list
When it happens, cpu/memory/network/hd usage aren't particularly high or out of the ordinary
It's very difficult to reproduce or predict when the hang will occur

Logging:
Event log doesn't show any entries for the times when the freeze occurs
Reliability monitor shows 3 critical events last re-install: Telephony (stopped working), Windows (not properly shut down), IDT PC Audio (stopped working)
Reliability monitor also shows 2 warnings, which were for windows updates that failed to install

Here's what I've tried:
Downloading and installing latest drivers, including BIOS
Factory re-install
Sending the laptop back to HP to replace the motherboard (and trackpad, which they suggested)
Tried custom visual effects: unchecked "Enable Aero Peek," checked "Save taskbar thumbnail previews"
Using "High performance" power plan, setting Intel Graphics & Media Control Panel for maximum performance in power features

Here is what I'm going to try next:
Turning off aero - this should probably work, but it's a very lame solution
Test the memory
Installing the 32-bit version of Windows 7 Professional

Issue Resolved

I found a more current driver for my graphics adapter at Intel's site, the one from HP wasn't as current. I installed it and I've been running for 72 hours without the thumbnail preview hang!

I have an HP Pavilion DV6 2155dx running Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I have the same problem with my mouse cursor freezing when I pass over the preview thumbnails and/or taskbar. It stays frozen for 3-4 seconds. I think it's my video driver for my Intel HD integrated card. I went to Intel and tried using a newer version as suggested, but refuses to install. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...3&product=4121236&sw_lang=&key=null&site=null

Thank you slr for your quick reply. I finally wiggled around enough to get it installed. Just like you said, everything works perfectly. :) I thank you again for your words of wisdom.

This is how it worked for me:

I went in to Device Manager and found the driver under Display Adapter. Right clicked on it and used the Uninstall feature removing all files as well. It will then try to load up a standard vga type of driver. During that process it automatically searched the net for a compatible driver, found and installed it rather quickly. I noticed instead of grabbing a standard, it found the latest 2011 Intel HD driver which is exactly what I needed. :)

Hope this helps,

Greg

A slight update: The newest Intel HD drivers gave me artifacts on certain flash animation such as blue boxes around objects. My laptop is an HP Pavilion DV6 2155dx, but I tried using the DV6 3250us driver which was newer. I can confirm that the freezes stop AND the artifacts are gone. Hopefully I won't have anymore problems. :)
