Cursor keeps skipping to where mouse pointer is.

I'm having a VERY frustrating problem with my mouse settings (presumably), although I have no idea what to change to make it stop (I've changed everything related to what it might be).

While I'm typing text into any program (email, Word, etc), the cursor will auto-move to wherever the mouse pointer would be (sort of like the setting is on that does auto-select/click when it sits on something). I then end up typing into a completely different part of the message/document and it's SO frustrating. There's no rhyme or reason to when it occurs, at least not that I can figure out.

It's nothing to do with my mouse/drivers - it happens with both my trackpad and my USB mouse.

Any suggestions very much appreciated!

Try looking for a switch to disable your mouse on the trackpad or look for a control centre - what is your pc/laptop manufacturer?

Hey - it's an HP dv6000 (specifically 6265).

I don't have the HP control centre because I had to wipe the drive to install 7. I supposed I could go into the device manager if you think that would be helpful, but both the external mouse and the trackpad are doing the same thing it seems.

Re-download the control centre.

Hi and welcome

I have it as well. It seems like the threshold of sensitivity is set too low so any errant movement causes the mouse/trackpad cursor to jump elsewhere ending the word on a different place than when I started. My logitech touchpad has an adjustment for it but its iffy at best

Hi guys,

I redownloaded the touchpad driver, and that seemed to work for me. I realized that it did seem to be the touchpad, as when it was off, my external mouse was working fine and the cursor wasn't skipping.

I haven't had that particular problem since then, as far as I can tell, so I would definitely recommend updating your touchpad/mouse drivers first.

Hope that helps,

s
