Yes, I know what you mean.

I 'lurked' for some time on both here and EightForums before finally joining, and I'd noticed the
same thing. When I made my first graphics-related post, on 'Sigs & Avatars' on EightForums, I
actually commented on the fact.

(Quote from that post:- "Hmmm... looks like things have been quiet in Sig-land.

It had been about six weeks without a single post, and indeed the Sig Thread over there is still
much quieter than this one. We do have a lot less members there tho, to be fair.

That wasn't pointed at you my friend, you are one of the few to answer requests. You know the lengthy list of sig makers, many quiet for a long time, and I miss them. A Guy

May be they have reasons to not doing it ATM. But I wish that they will be back. I also miss them, and all the actions.

During their absence, I try my best to serve the requests.

I don't regard myself as being anywhere near good enough yet to consider doing any
requests, but once I get more skilled and gain more confidence, then I surely will do
the odd request.

Anyway, I'm back for a reason. You guys are gonna get tired of this, but you are the only
ones I can bounce this stuff off as most of my friends and workmates have no interest at
all. As you'll see below, I've managed to get the border to look much better with a couple
of effects, and also that I've finally changed the avatar in the sig to the right one,instead
of my EightForums one. :huh:

But, I'm still not happy with it, and am planning some major changes to it, including a new
background layer. This is mainly a test run to see how it looked 'on the job' and to gain
feedback. But it's strange how you can work for a couple of hours on a sig (as I did last
night, on my Farce-book cover pic), sit back with a coffee and admire it for a while, and
think it looks just great. Then you post it, and instantly spot the flaws, things not aligned
properly, a logo you forgot to add, spelling/typing mistakes etc.


Or is it just me?

Anyway, here's the latest effort..... I've changed sigs already, so won't actually re-post
an image, as you can see it below.

Well, in the three hours since I last posted, and while I've been sitting here watching the Sunday
night movie. I managed to knock this together.

I didn't create the honeycomb background, it's a piece of 'stock' artwork I found online, but the
rest is mine. I just wanted to see how the b'ground would go on a sig, and I'm quite happy with
the (admittedly rushed) result.

Neil, keep at it, mate, you can only improve. To give you an idea of how quickly you will improve,
underneath this latest effort, I've posted my very first ever attempt, which I used on EightForums
for a couple of months.

Looks pretty 'rubbish', doesn't it? It doesn't even use layers, but is simply a straightforward copy
& paste job. Now, here's the rub. It was only created on Jan 3 this year.



Yes, that's right. I didn't really start to get into this until I got Photo-Shop CS2 on April 19th, so
all that improvement took place in just shy of a month. Check the contrast between the two.

And if I can do it, you sure can!

No I'll be fine when I start reading some tutorials. It's not so much coming up with the creative ideas with me, it's the execution, however, I'm not going to be too hard on myself lol ... I haven't read anything on Photoshop CS6 yet and winged it to this point !!! lol

I have no graphical skills. I cannot use Photoshop or other image editing applications, apart of simple cropping, resizing and similar tasks. My opinion regarding any GFX work is only my subjective opinion as an active Internet and PC user who keenly follows GFX threads here. My critic should not be taken too seriously as even if I criticize something I could never tell how to do it differently.

Mr. Smiley (and Wenda in some extent), I do not know how to explain what I mean but let's try: In my opinion a good sig is one entity. It has different elements blended to become one.

Looking your sig now it is not one, as good as it otherwise is. Various elements are placed on top of the background as separate elements, not blended to form one entity.

Sorry, just my 2 Euro cents.

are getting longer and colder, I'll have plenty of time to 'play'.

Britton, the avatar/sig pics are actually of a friend's 'Second Life' character. :busted:
