If you start with a page/canvas size of 1300x300 or 650x150 and then stay within that area?

EDIT to your edit : .... in the image > image size window, let it confirm that all the three options are checked, change the width to 650, and save.
Dont touch the height anyhow. The result will be a thin output, but it is as you started. A thin sig is not bad at all, if it contains rich graphics .

Just want to ask one thing to you, Athene. If you spent one post to inform us that you made something such a nice thing .... what would the bad in it ?

Anyway , I have no way but appreciate your skill . You did it very nice, and most of all, it is totally an experimental layout, with color , texture, and effects. I mostly appreciate how sharply you made the outer bevel effect without having photoshop.

Appreciating your artwork, but not the modus operandi .... my friend . I think you to be my friend, and that's why I am writing so much words.

Archie: sorry about not posting my current sig over here - I was actually having some problems with it because I had originally made the lower half of the center shape black - which resulted in it being swallowed up by the black SF theme. So I kept logging in and out and testing modified versions of the sig - fortunately you caught the final and definite version Anyway, in all the confusion, I completely forgot to post the sig over here
You are spot on about the experimental layout - the name of the sig/psd file is, in fact, "experimental"
Photoshop Elements fortunately has several bevel effects/filters, so they were very useful; though I guess Photoshop CS has far more bevel options. I also focused heavily on the font. The font, as you all know, is one of my notoriously weak sigging areas

About the texts .... I am seeing that you are trying to get rid of your weakness, and you got it. The texting of the last lot is class. You are almost out of your weakness now.

Not sure about koolkat, but I do it using the gradient tool
