Doing re-install from Windows 7 home premium. Left the room, came back and it was stuck on " please wait" for 5-7 minutes. Then it went to screen that asks for username and password? I figure it is asking fort normal log in info but it won't accept it obviously as I have not set accounts up yet?

What username and password is it asking for and why is the "please wait" there for almost 10 minutes? I even tried powering down twice and re-powering up to see if that would help, but No. I am not even sure the install is complete. I took the disc out when I powered down and rebooted in safe mode Soni could maybe try the disc/install again, but it goes through the same thing and gets stuck on "please wait" for 10 min and then goes to the username and password screen?

Thanks for your help

It sounds like it bypassed the main account setup. You might just want to try re-installing Windows again.

Yep that is what I thought, but I can't get to a "desktop" so I can re insert disc. Regardless if I boot in safe mode or start windows normally , it goes through the same " please wait" BS and up pops the login screen again? Not sure how to reinstall again. Also, every boot wether it is safe or normal is on the big safe mode font ???

The big font would be that it didn't install the video driver right.

It's sitting at the username password screen now but when I pop in disc at this point, it doesn't do anything. Tried popping in right when I powered up but just spins for a minute and does nothing while the screen goes into "please wait" mode

Tried the disc right after power up. It wants nothing to do with disc. Just spins while "please wait " is on screen an then after 30 secs stops spinning (while please wait continues for another 5 min).

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals, Boot into BIOS setup to see if there is an EFI Boot Disk in BIOS Boot order. If so remove it, set DVD drive first to boot. If EFI BIOS also set to Legacy BIOS.

Then boot into installer DVD or flash stick, at first screen Press Shift + F10 to open a Command Box, type:

DISKPART
LIST DISK
SEL DIS 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY SIZE=102400
FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="WINDOWS 7"
ACTIVE
EXIT

Next click Install Now to Clean Install Windows 7 to partition you created. If it fails then report back at which step and the verbatim error message.

In addition read over these steps to understand the tools and methods which work best to get and maintain a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. The steps are the same for retail.

Thanks to all who responded. I actually booted from disc prior to gregrocker's post. I put on primary partition (which I believe is why it said only 350G was available on a 750G HD). Everything seems to be working fine. This whole thing started over on the BSOD forum, then moved to security forum and then ended up on this Installation and Setup Forum. After about 40 hours of troubleshooting, I am happy to report that things look ok. I backed up files prior to re-install etc.

Thanks again for this forum as I do not consider myself an IT guru but I am resourceful and don't mind troubleshooting from expert advice. Have a great day!
