Today I logged on and mcafee alerted me to changes to my registry. I blocked the changes and that's when my computer started messing up. I couldn't run any program on Microsoft Office, I couldn't print out anything on my notepad, as the "This program hhas stopped working" message sprang on both programs and I couldn't run CCleaner or Mcafee. I ran malwarebytes and it found 11 infections, the majority of which was located in Win32 and HKEY. When i tried to delete them malewarebytes stopped working. I checked the quarantine after several other scans and deleted the maleware. I then restarted my computer and after the "Welcome" screen came up my desktop didn't show up, I just got a black screen and the cursor. I ran windows 7 on safe mode w/networking, this pretty much how I'm talking to you right now. I just checked my downloads folder and it has been cleaned out, my history on firefox/IE has been cleared (I don't know exactly if running on safe mode is the cause of the two). I'm desperate for help!!!! I'm still running my PC on safe mode w/networking I ran malwarebytes and this time it found 28 infections and I was able to delete them, but when I restarted my computer I still got the black screen! I was able to run CCleaner and it found that the "startup.dll" (something like that) was missing. I fixed it (supposedly) and I continued to get the black screen! I tried to run system restore but the "System restore has been turned off by your administrator" message popped up. I tried to run malwarebytes once again but the error 704(0,0) window came up. Of course this could be because I'm running in safe mode. This is becoming too much for me to bare and I need a resolution before I go insane! So I implore you; HELP ME!!!!!! I can't turn on Mcafee or the Windows security service center because of an error (Mcafee) and that it just can't be started (WSSC).

Others may come by with more technical solutions, I only have two ways to go.

I would even be afraid to suggest a system image restore, unless kept on an external device, as your damage was so pervasive, that even image may be infected. I would suggest a clean install with a format. I am sure that you know how to do a clean install. You can do it even if you are using the upgrade DVD, just dont give your key until you are up and running again.
Others may come by with other solutions, that may seem easier and they probably are, but there seems to be a lot of problems caused by a virus, that can be anywhere. One suggestion, if you can run in normal mode, try to run your A/V, if you are clean and damage does not seem too insidious, you may want to try things like a repair installation or sfc /scannow or a disc check for errors from the c drive; Its up to you. If you want to wait, someone will come along and you may have an easier way out. I can just tell you what I would do. But, in the future have a system image put away in a safe place so you could just install again without problems

I don't know how to format . I'm not as adept in tech as you individuals are. What will happen to my computer if were to format and clean install? Will it delete data and information that I placed on my PC? I'd rather not clean install considering I'm afraid that it will delete downloads, history and files that I have placed on my ACER.

You will lose all data and information, but bear in mind that malware can attach itself to all sorts of files (not just system executables) so it is quite possible that one or more of these files are infected anyway. With a system that is so heavily infected, it is really better to start off with a clean slate.

Ok I will be glad to help you, it really is easy. Just so you know when I installed mine, I cheated alittle watched it on utube.

We have tutorials in this forum, under installation that can explain this in great detail, but here is the short form.

You have to read your computer manual to see how to get to bios. Not hard. All you do is boot up and then slowly tap an f key (this is what you need to find out, every mfg uses a different key, the most common is f2 and f12. Once you are in bios you look for the section that says boot order (or similar) you select boot from DVD/CD. Then turn off computer. put the windows 7 DVD in drive and boot up. You are now not in your OS, but the DVD. Just follow the instruction on the screen. When you get to the screen that shwos do you want custom upgrade or advanced select advanced. Once in the adnaced section, just select format and then go back and choose custom. Now just follow the easy instructions. Once done try it if you like it give your key number, then. Do not give it when first asked during the installation.

I would not mislead you. We have a great, astute and knowledgable staff here, who's only satisfaction is helping other computer users. I promise you, what has to be done is easy and will not cause many problems, even for a novice. This is what I suggest. Dont post with all your problems and questions. Lets do it one at a time. I will monitor this post and help you every step of the way. If I am delayed or not available, others even more proficient than me will come by to help.

If you do not want to work with us, the alternative is to get, someone who is less proficient than some of the people here, and you have to pay. Worse case scenaro, if you cant do it, you can always pay at that point. You lose nothing.

So in your next post, just give me your first concern, we will put your mind at ease then move to the next step. We do not care how long it takes, it will be worth the effort when you come here with that smile and say I am up and running.

It sounds intimidating but it is not rocket science. We can walk you through it step by step. We have ppl in every time zone so we can do it around the clock if need be.

It is a pain in the neck, but wouldnt you want to learn this now so if it ever happens again you will have the knowledge and hopefully a back up Just in case

First and foremost, please list what data you need to save from the computer, before you do a clean install. Include any apps that you need to save data from, we can help you find where the files that need to be saved are placed. You will need something like a external hard drive or a usb thumb drive to put the data onto while you fix the computer, then after the clean install finishes you can scan the files and copy back the clean ones.
