D: \ci.dll is corrupt...can't get past startup repair.

Hey I really need some help with something and I'm at wit's end with this thing. My Windows 7 Dell laptop refuses to boot up past startup repair. When startup repair finishes, it says it can't fix the problem automatically. Upon reading the logs of startup repair, it says file d: \ci.dll is corrupt. I have no idea how to fix this so any help would be really, really, really, really appreciated.

Hi,

There could several reasons for the corruption, in the worst case a rootkit infection. Lets see if you can cross that off first.

You could try slave the HDD to another computer, and then scan the HDD using this tool:

How to remove malware belonging to the family Rootkit.Win32.TDSS (aka Tidserv, TDSServ, Alureon)?

If it is a rootkit infection, then the safest route here is to consider formatting the HDD.

If your data is backed up I would just do a fresh install. If your data is not backed up you can remove your hard drive and either get a sata to USB converter and back it up that way or put it onto another computer. You will need the install disks if you dont have one try this thread : ** LINK REMOVED **

I tried putting TDSSkiller on the computer with a flash drive, but when I get to the desktop by disabling signature drivers, it won't let me open any programs or applications. Is this a separate problem?

Mmm. I'm not sure.

Try and scan from outside the Windows environemnt by burning this to a CD/DVD and booting from that instead of Windows:
