My PC has a Killer Networks NIC on the motherboard. I used it for a long time, and had problems with losing connection. Eventually, I decided that my problems were related to my NIC, so I picked up an Intel NIC and disabled the onboard NIC. I uninstalled the drivers and Killer Networks software. However, now I have a different problem.

Whenever I download something that takes more than around 10 minutes, I will lose connection to the LAN. Not only that, but every device connected to my router via wired networking will lose connection. Devices connected via wireless remain connected. As soon as I reboot my PC, every other device on the network regains connection.

I have no QoS or anything like that set up on my router. I've tried removing the KillerNetworks driver software using their old uninstaller tool. I've tried limiting download speed when I am downloading. Nothing I've tried seems to help. BTW, my wife's PC is running the same anti-virus (setup the same way) and firewall software I am, but is not having the problem.

Does anybody have any suggestions on what I can do to fix this issue?

Well at a rough guess I would say the card is heading south have you thought of installing a PCI network card nit expensive and certainly worth a try.
As to what you use I prefer TP-Link stuff like this TP-Link TG-3269 Gigabit Network Adapter 101000Mbps PCI 1 x RJ45-Newegg.com - very easy to fit.

There are plenty on that page it's on even some nice Intel ones and at that price what are you going to lose apart form your mind of course LOL!!

I stated in my post that I replaced the NIC and the problem still exists. I replaced it with a PCIe NIC (Intel).

I've got the DNS on my router set to those IPs. I've been using OpenDNS servers for years.

I didn't have it set to Auto-Negotiate. I did have it set to 100 Mbps Full Duplex. I also tried 1 Gbps Full Duplex. I've now set it to 100 Mbps Half Duplex. I'll test it out and let you know how it works.

Having the NIC set to 100Mbps Half Duplex seems to have stopped the problem. I haven't watched download speeds though. Is that going to throttle my download speeds?

Well unless I have it terribly wrong then unless you want two way traffic as it were at 100Mbs then half duplex will still let you send or receive that speed one way at a time.

For me out here 100Mbs is a dream that I don't ever see happening unless I live in a large city and then it depends on what you pay. My downloads are at average 22Mbs an uploads at 4Mbs.

But I am no expert and Samuria probably knows better than me.
