Dark Energy May Not Exist At All

I realise that mate, but sometimes people will get offended no matter what.

It's just a friendly discussion :)
yeah we all like discussion...:)
as long as its in the chill out room (when its not Win 7 discussion and deemed non-offensive...;)

If it's deemed offensive, then I would question why does someone feel offended?
exactly....:)
So, back on topic - Does Dark Matter exist? No. It's because space is really just fairy floss :p

:roflmao:
it does exist

No, I completely understand. This is a great thread, replete with most participants expressing their enjoyment of what folly our knowledge really is.

The reference to Flatland was misunderstood, yet nonetheless, cogent. How that led us to Darwin's genatalia - well, that is moot. The offended party has abandoned the exploration.

There is a wonderfully revealing meta-discussion occurring here. It is not unlike Aero. If a member likes it, let them use it. If they do not...
Then it is settled...no more carrying on about it. As SmartEyeBall said lets get back on the topic at hand

Speaking of that a college buddy of mine who is a little weird is an avid space researcher. He mentioned to me that a while back scientists in Asia(can't remember but I think it was there) were trying to make somewhat of an artificial black hole or at least that is how I understood it. I don't know about you but that scares the hell out of me:confused:

Fascinating cross-reference there, DarkOne. Are you familiar with the work of Julian Jaynes? Just curious.

I accept the metabrain as a given. Collective fuzzy logic. And yes, I believe glial cells are involved.

Yes. They haven't been seen in a while. ;)
As far as I know not much has came of it (or what has been told to the media...we know how well that goes:rolleyes::sarc:)...I would like to know if the scientists were successful...unless their not around to tell their story anymore;)

Thanks Antman...looks like some progress there

People tend to have a misunderstanding of black holes. Besides the energy we receive from the sun, if you were to turn it into a black hole, nothing would change. Earth and the likes will not suddenly get sucked into the black hole. They will go on as usual.

That would be true during the initial conversion period, because the mass of the sun would be the same. However, everything in our solar environment would change. For one, the Earth would be crispy. Orbital decay would eventually prevail and the Earth would, indeed, be sucked.

No worries though. Following our pending crispiness, the sun lacks the mass to collapse sufficiently to form a black hole.

Based upon Antman's posted articles than that is not true. It might not happen ATM but eventually the masses of the sun and those of the Solar System would collapse onto itself

Ahh yes, an interesting thread.... lots of fish commenting on the state of the pond..... blub, blub... blub..... :p

Where did I put my tin-foil hat? It was here just a minute ago before I switched on my new black hole garbage disposal.....ooops....

You know there were some in the Manhattan Project that speculated a nuclear explosion might ignite the atmosphere...fortunately they were better theorists than mathematicians.

The black hole researchers (the ones that will appear on Nova) claim the black holes they are trying to create are very small and do not exist for very long.

Hmmmm.... yeah :sarc:..... and fission weapons (bad enough) spawned fusion weapons.... potential "planet crackers", a euphemism in actual use. The difficult problem with blowing a planet up though is that, unless escape velocity is achieved, its mass will simply collapse back on its center.

Night, night... sweet dreams! :D

yes i would interesting....
what be surprising would be a naked singularity...:p
in theory that would cause disruptions on a massive scale (if the theory is true) and would change the world as we know it...;)

People tend to have a misunderstanding of black holes. Besides the energy we receive from the sun, if you were to turn it into a black hole, nothing would change. Earth and the likes will not suddenly get sucked into the black hole. They will go on as usual.
yep you need huge amounts of energy to create something that we should be scare about (even our sun is not enough to create a black hole)...

As for orbital decay, that will not change in the slightest.
That is incorrect. In its non-blackhole form, the sun exerts outward pressure through the expulsion of matter. In a blackhole form, the expulsion ceases. Rate of decay will increase in the absence of an opposing momentum.

This oversimplification assumes spherical expulsion in current form and polar jet expulsion in blackhole form.

The super-collider did not fail when it was fired up. It was sabotaged. From the future. ;)

Sorry but you're wrong. Go ask at Bad Astronomy. The earth and the other bodies that orbit the sun will stay just where they are. ;)
