Data Drive Corrupt

Hi all,

This morning I thought I'd try the 'hibernate' mode in Windows 7, so I placed my system into hibernation before I left for work. Tonight when I started it back up, the drive was continuously doing its thing... a lot longer than normal (by that I mean spinning up and searching, etc., or whatever it IS that HDD's do when powered on...). I tried saving some files to my data drive (D:\) and I got an error message stating that the drive could not be written to. I restarted my system and as it was booting, text popped up stating that found errors on my disk. I am running a mirrored array on my D:\ for redundancy. I also backup weekly, so I tried running that tonight as well. While the backup 'completed', it skipped a number of folders due to them being on a "corrupted" drive (my D:\).

Could the disk corruption have been caused by using hibernate? I understand that faulty shutdown's can cause corruptions. The disk(s) in question here are only about 6 months old.

Is there a way to repair my disk using CHKDSK? If so, how do I do it? I just need a bit of direction as I've never used it before.

Thanks!

Hi,

A chkdsk /f will fix some errors if possible. You will need to run it from a elevated command prompt.
