Data Recovery/Overwriting : NTFS File Records? (Screenshots...)

I just did a 2 pass overwrite of my entire HDD using copywipe, but yet Easus is still finding over 60,000 + NTFS file records and near 4,000 files identified?

Why didn't the overwrite erase this data? I don't understand - I've been at this for a whole day now. I literally formatted, booted from a usb and ran copywipe, did a 2 pass overwrite, and reinstalled windows.

How do I get rid of these NTFS file records?

I'm looking through my RAW recovered files and it's still all there...

Edit: I just started to run Easus, and the numbers keep going up and up... WTF.

How long did it take CopyWipe to (allegedly) erase your HD? I can only guess that it simply didn't work as advertised.

I'm also a bit confused how you can be checking the drive for deleted data when you've already reinstalled Windows on it...

Just a question, If you are trying to completly wipe out your HD I use acronis. Also, DBAN whcich can be mounted on a jumpdrive then just have your computer f12 starup with usb and dban will run automatically. Maybe give this a try. Also When you are trying to do a fresh install the HD should have been formated and all previous files should have been erased.

This. Are you running file recovery software on your current OS drive? If so, you're just "finding" all the files that are currently on that drive from installing Windows.

I used copywipe and Active Kill Disk to completely erase my hdd. Both programs were run to erase and write over the hdd (ran on a bootable stick), after erasing C:. I then installed windows, and ran esus data recovery. Easus data recovery found items from my previous install.

Copywipe took like 1-2 hours for a 1TB drive, and Active Kill disk took 14 hours.

That seems to confirm my suspicion that CopyWipe simply cheated whereas Active KillDisk properly erased the entire drive.

The big fallacy in your procedure is that you reinstalled Windows fresh and then started looking for deleted files. I don't think you have been finding any from before the wipe, but rather temporary files that were created and then deleted during install, plus anything and everything that's changed/updated since your new system first booted to life.

You haven't seen any deleted files that were definitely identifiable as having been on the disk before the wipe, am I right?
