Data removal

Hey sevenforums,

Family friend is selling their old PC, it has a 2nd HDD for storage and i was just wondering which pass option i should pick from DBAN? i haven't used it before..

The files on there are word docs, music, photos and videos

Depends on how much time you have. The more passes the more overwrites. Usually one pass is enough to wipe everything securely.

if your (or your friend really) is more on the paranoid end (like me lol) you should use the DOD 3 pass I usually use the DoD 3 pass (followed by multiple letters [4 letters], forget all of them but they i think are A, b, c, e or something like that) and if possible have it do the pass as random passes meaning it will pic how the pass is done, no real set pattern (well no true set pattern).

Even better would be the guteman 35 pass or my personial fave that I like to do 100 random passes

If you're truly worried about the data on the drives... burn the used drives and put new drives in.
