tbh people with a i7 4th gen, 780 GTX, have had problems playing it, the game itself is not optimised at all they admit that, its only in alpha If you find it hard to run the dayz mod you will never be able to play Standalone.

Andrew

Solarstarshine,
I used that link you sent me and it was very useful, it said that I met more than the minimum standards. As for specs, here is what I am running with:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3320M CPU @ 2.60GHz
CPU speed: 2.6 GHz
Ram: 7.9 GB
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Enterprise Edition Service Pack 1 (build 7601), 64-bit
Video Card: NVS 5400M
Sound Card: Microsoft Streaming Quality Manager Proxy
Disk Space 214.4GB.

MrSh4rkyy,
I havent downloaded the DayZ Mod on Steam yet, I was debating on whether I should or not. I've seen some videos on YouTube and from what I understand I would also need to install Arma II and the extensions. I've been playing Standalone for about 2 weeks now without too much trouble, just some lag and slowness, but it seems to work alright. Any thought or opinions?

wait the "mod" isnt avaliable on steam, only the stand alone version. which uses the ARMA 3 engine, so im a little confused to this question as you say youve been playing the standalone for weeks.. standalone is the proper game, the mod is just that a mod for arma 2, which probably wont receive anymore updates other than fan based ones.

Either way the game doesnt run very well on any pc. Ive set the graphics to normal/medium, im only getting about 36-50fps and theres a fair bit of slowdown. As well as the terrain loading at different speeds. But as its at alpha its acceptable. I just wish theyd fix all the damn noobs who think its cool to kill everyone on site.. i dont want to turn into a bandit on this like on the mod.. camping in cherno hunting down everyone lol

DAYZ Standalone does not run on the ARMA 3 engine it is a custom built one, They where not aloud to use it, The dayz Standalone game has a mixed engine between the arma 3 one and a completely new one, The arma 2 engine to an extent runs like the new one in terms of rendering but they can fix that and make it better, Even one of the devs did say that if you are unable to run the mod the full game will be no good untill optimization is done.

From what I understand, you have to install Arma II and the extensions in order to play the DayZ "Mod", you cant just play it like Standalone. I know that there have been recent patches and debugging for Standalone. But on the plus side, I will probably be getting a new gaming platform, something with a little more kick. You guy's are the best, thank you for your input, and please, share your ideas, I enjoy knowing what you guys think.
Here is a link to the gaming platform that im thinking about getting:

Im on a budget, so im kinda limited. What are your thought's?

seem right for the money, itd lacking a little in RAM, you ideally need 8gb for gaming, especially as win 7 can gobble up to 2gb for its own need.
the r7 gpu will see you through most games maxed out at 1080p, but you may see yourself having to lower quality before the years out with newer games (thats an assumption not fact) mainly as games like bf4 and indeed dayz standalone are capable of drawing around 2gb of gpu ram themselves. Its why im currently in the market for a new gpu as mine is slowly coming to the stage where its 2gb ram isnt enough to max out all games.

The main thing that would let you down as with any ArmA game is you CPU. They are all CPU intensive. But there is a trick with the engine were you can offload tasks such as Shadows etc by putting them on high and your GPU takes the load instead. Unfortunately your GPU is a pretty big let down for such games to be able to do this effectively.

@badger906. The Mod is available on Steam as "ArmA II: DayZ Mod" but as someone already pointed out you need either ArmA 2 free version and Operation Arrowhead or Combined operations.

Also it's better to use DayZ Commander to get all the required mods to be honest rather than using the Steam Mod version. Commander just makes it easier to find servers and more.

Another thing that was also pointed out is that DayZ:SA is not optimized at the moment and the creators have said it won't be until at least Beta.

Totally understand that you may be on a budget but...

Try to stretch to 8GB of RAM.
Please for the love of god don't go for some generic 350Watt PSU. Get the Corsair CX500W at least. Or something similar branded. It is THE most important component in your system.
GPU wise that R7 240 is low end really. And don't get caught up in the "Well if it has more video memory it must be good" situation. 1GB video memory is enough for up to 1920x1080 gaming. So unless you are going to be running a higher resolution than that or multiple screens then save by going for a 1GB card and slightly higher model. Just try to save some more until then if possible. You'll be happier in the long run and get more life out of it.

Good luck ;)

@taylorig. Thank you very much for your suggestions! Hopefully I will be able to save more money and work on a better gaming platform. I've been reading some of the tech forums and other topics on this website, and i'm starting to get a good idea of what i'm going to need in order to have a bullet proof system.
