DCOM Service Disabled - Windows wont start in any mode!

Hi

My windows 7 has DCOM Service Disabled - Windows wont start in any mode!
Ive tried Safemode, safemode command prompt etc and I just get a black screen.

I can access CMD.exe using repair mode from the installation disk but not sure how to change services control manager settings from the command line. The systemroot is on D:

Iv thought of some routes like, changing the registry or perhaps a batch file running on start up but not sure of how or where to place and enter into startup at the right time.

Any help appreciated.

You can edit the registry from offline. You may be able to find instructions on the net for doing so, but remember this is a dangerous operation and might mess up your system even more.

But from what I see, DCOM (DCOMLAUNCH) is a service that used rpcss.dll in the Windows\System32 folder. You may be able to repair such a problem by running the System File Checker from offline.

If that doesn't help, here is some info you may need to edit your registry. I have made some assumptions based on your DCOM comment.

Registry entry for the DCOMLAUNCH service

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\DcomLaunch

In the right pane of regedit, there is a "Start" entry which mine shows as 0x00000002(2)

In your Windows\System32\Config folder there are five hives, and I believe you will need the SYSTEM one.

I tried booting to the command prompt using the install DVD and using the "Windows\System32\compmgmtlauncher.exe" (or Taskmgr.exe) command,but was unable to get it to start. If you could, you may be able to start the services.exe (which I did not try directly). If you were able to boot into safe mode, or use the repair CD, you may be able to use this option.

Anyway, if you end up editing the registry, let us know. I have done it a couple of times and should be able to help. If you use a reference for the procedure, please post the link to it.

Thanks for this - I had to edit the registry, it worked for me, i followed some other instructions on how to make the change to the registry hive found at - How to edit the registry offline using BartPE boot CD ?

Mitchell I disagree, since I have better adminitrated services the computer is running much smoother and at lighter load this is the first time ive lost access and now its fixed.

Glad you got it working. You can start Regedit from the command prompt using the Windows 7 install DVD, so the Bart PE is probably good, but may not be necessary.

Can u help me I do not know how to make my own post so forgive.

I am using my iPhone to try to figure out my computer. So it is the only one I have. It is in a constant loop of windows not starting and trying to fix errors then says it can't, I can't get it to load in safe mode or anything else. I can use the box where u put in commands and found my registry hive says 0 bytes. I do not know how to fix this. And I do not have a windows disk cause it came already installed. So how can I fix this and what do I need to do or try
