Hey all I have a TV question. Are the white lines and dots on the tv screen dead pixels?

IMG_0536.jpg

IMG_0537.jpg

It started out as one small line and now its taken over my TV.

Anyone ever get something like this fixed? Can it be fixed? What I mean by can Is it worth it to get it fixed? Its over two years old so no warranty.

Thanks

No, they aren't dead pixels, but something has broke I'm afraid.

Your best bet would be to call a tech and get a quote. It may be cheap or it maybe a write off.

How is your tv hooked up?
I would call the cable/satellite company and have them come out and check it out as it looks like same background image on all channels. Something definitely wrong with your signal.

Hook up: Cable>HD receiver>component cables>TV.

Its not the reception. The lines appear no matter what input I select, game, dvd, tv.

Then that suggestions rules out the incoming signal....Now you need to have someone take a peek at your TV.
How old is it? Are there tubes or boards on the inside?
Don't laugh as I have an old 40" monster that still works beautiful.
Waiting for it to go on the blink so I can get a newer one. Need 2 people to lift it!

Lol. :D I know what you mean about heavy TVs. When I got this one I had a big old Sony that I was giving to a friend. It took two of us, a cart and we had a heck of a time getting it in the back of my truck. He still has it and it looks great for a SDTV.

This set is another Sony.KDL-52W4150. I have it between two and three years. The thing is Tv repair shops are few and far between these days. I checked the Sony site and they recommend two authorized places in the city, about 50 miles away.

It's your T-Con board (Timing Control). Is the set a KDL52W4100, KDL52W5100, or KDL52W5150? I don't see any KDL52W4150.

photo.JPG

Look familiar? I'm a TV tech. The T-Con is the board at the top of the panel that the LVDS cable from the "Main" board plugs into. If you confirm the model#, I'll get you a part#, and the list price. You can perhaps use that knowledge to haggle. Don't let them convince you it's the panel of the "Main" board. I'd wager money on my diagnosis. A Guy

@ A Guy

Wow! I was hoping for a little help but you knocked it right out of the park. :D

You're right the model# is KDL-52W4100.

Is this a part I can buy and install or is it a job for a TV tech?

Thanks a Million

If you can change a PC Motherboard, you can change the T-Con. I'm attaching the instructions. I need the serial# to find the correct T-Con. (7 digit number starting with an 8 or a 9, on back label). Purchasing it might be a different story. When I have the ser#, and know the part# I can look around.
