Solved Dealing with disabling services in XPMode

Does anyone know if xp mode uses any specific services that are crucial to its startup in windows 7 that I should avoid disabling in following the black viper website, in order to speed it up a little?

Also, I am a bit disappointed in learning that xp mode doesn't support the installation of many games. I've head it isn't very stable in playing games, and that was the whole reason I got windows 7 pro, was for xp mode games that looked better in xp than 7.

All games that I have meant for xp can play on 7, but sometimes the graphics render poorly and i had thought to go with xp mode. thats what i get for not researching. I could have saved over 50$ had i purchased windows 7 home.

If you want to use a VM for gaming, you should consider VMware Player (VMware Player: Run Windows 7, Chrome OS - Free Download for a Virtual PC). You can also use VMware vCenter Converter (VMware vCenter Converter, Convert Physical Machines to Virtual Machines) to convert XP Mode into a VM that can be run in VMware Player. As far as disabling services, I never recommend it as the performance gain is negligible and it could cause trouble down the line. The one service you should watch out (apart from the important ones that are useful in a physical machine) would be the Virtual PC Integration Components service.

Another virtualization solution is VirtualBox. There's a Window version for download.

I too was disappointed with XP Mode, though I'm not a gamer. I just thought the performance was disappointing.

I hope so, because as yet I have found no benefit. I hate offline mode and that coupled with a failed xp mode (for my intended use), makes my purchase taste sour.

But I may try out those downloads you both mentioned, is there any chance that they are free?

Aside from that, I have found a service(s) that are required to use external devices such as printers, etc. but I don't remember the name(s). Disabling services in XP mode actually slowed it down. Bad idea

Also wonder if installing drivers such as mouse, keyboard, and even more is such a good idea as most aren't supported in the older operating system and it already has a type of support.

Well, since technically the machine would see it as a virtualized device, then you would not and should not install extra drivers for your peripherals. (Keyboard, mouse, etc.)

VirtualBox is free. I've used it under Linux, though not under Windows, but I've had great success with it.

No, you don't want to install drivers under the VM. You do want to install VirtualBox Guest Additions though if you decide to go with that.
