Decrap - Windows PC De-crapifier, remove bloatware with ease!

Just a heads up to anyone who is thinking about using this software. I reckon that most users would be better off avoiding it.

There's two versions available. The full version that can be installed on windows and a portable version that runs without installation.

It's from the same people who developed jv16 Power Tools - an advanced registry cleaner that really isn't suited to inexperienced users. Since the advice given to forum users is to avoid using such tools it might be wise to avoid using the registry cleanup option that's present in PC De-crapifier as it appears to be almost the same as the registry cleaner that comes with jv16 Power Tools. Each detection needs to be reviewed by the user and not checked for removal unless you're absolutely certain that no harm will be done.

It has to be said that users of PC De-crapifier are clearly warned not to proceed with automated cleanup unless they know what they are doing!

Full automatic mode should be avoided!

You are presented with a list of items to select from:

Suggest avoiding Fully Automatic uninstallation option and Automatically Clean The Registry - (Registry cleaner is too aggressive):

Personally I used this software to test remove a single application and ran the registry cleaner choosing "Clean the registry but let me verify results"

Scan after uninstall.jpg

Strangely it didn't detect any registry entries for the application that was removed and detected a whole lot of other entries that in my opinion were unsafe to remove!

In addition a subsequent manual registry scan using another trusted application revealed a total of 13 missed entries and a couple of missed folders!

This is just a warning to users who might be tempted to run this application. Only use with care - or better still, don't use it at all!

I ran it on a PC with Vista pre SP1 32 bit. I didn't run automatic mode. It didn't seem to do harm so much as it missed Norton registry settings. I had to run the Norton Removal Tool 3 or 4 times to dig out all the driver load statements in the Registry. Other than that it seemed OK in manual mode.

I've been recommending it for sometime, especially laptop owners with no issues reported.

I don't know what Green Tree apps are, but I think YTD is to download YouTube videos which is against their policies.

Another test

Thanks for your input guys. I can see that it will indeed clean up bloatware and render programs inactive - it's just that it doesn't seem to do a very good job of cleaning up the leftovers. Just ran it again to remove Tripwire SecureCheq.

Trip-wire.jpg

Ran the registry cleaner tool - but it still missed files/ folders and another 101 related registry entries!

Trip-wire2.jpg

Checked for file and registry changes that occured using Tigzy's DiffView to report on changes over a twenty minute period including the removal process. The Tripwire SecureCheq program folder was removed but that was all!

As for the registry cleaner - I've revised my opinion having looked at it more carefully. At first glance it appeared to show potentially unsafe to remove entries but after a more thorough manual check on the results I'd concede that I was wrong.

I guess it's an easy solution for getting rid of some of the rubbish!

If the "rubbish" in question has a dedicated removal tool it's probably a good idea to run that first. If a dedicated remover is required then it's likely the rubbish takes steps to avoid general cleanup tools.

You're not having a problem WITH the decrappifier.
The problem IS the decrappifier.
Just don't use it. You won't need it. And you won't miss it.

Callender, you are a power user -- anything you use will work for you because you know what you are doing. There are very few times you did not :) Agree with you, I do not recommend PC-Decrapifier in auto-mode. I have the pay-for jv16PowerTools, and when I run that, I run it cautiously, carefully, line by line, choice by choice, there is no auto-run at anytime.
