Solved Dedicated Power On button on keyboard doesn't work

Hi

I have a simple USB keyboard that has a Sleep, wakeup and poweron button on it.
The sleep button works fine but the others do not.
How do I enable that?

In the BIOS there's the wakeup setting, I chose the key (power button) and it still doesn't work.
I had to disable EUP (an European rule) which, if enabled, makes sure the power consumption of the powered off PC stays under 1 W, but it also eliminates most of the wakeup options to achive that low power level.

Now with that option disabled, it is now possible to enable wake up events but the power button still doesn't work.

Legacy USB keyboard setting is on. Could it be the cause?

What brand of keyboard is it? If it's a Logitech, it could be a driver issue. I have a similar problem with my media buttons on a Logitech keyboard, but it seems that a recent driver update has made them fail. Rolling back the driver made them work again.

Try reinstalling the driver, or rolling back to a previous driver and see if that helps the issue.

I didn't even install a driver for it, it works with the standard USB driver...
Are you sure one is needed? I always thought it was related to the BIOS. After all, the PC is powered down.
I'll try the driver tomorrow

May not be a driver issue if the PC is powered down. Has to be something in BIOS.

Having the USB legacy setting on won't hurt anything.

Well, no success yet. The only thing I found in the BIOS is the wakeup events panel, where I enabled the keyboard and ticked the power key. (I could choose from any key, power key and none/disabled)

On my motherboard (Gigabyte) the Power On from Keyboard option works only with a PS2 connected keyboard.

Something I wondered sometime ago when a similar thread was posted, which I haven't investigated.

Would using such an adapter cause functionality loss off the keyboard?

I don't think so. Not in this case. This is a basic keyboard, no hotkeys or special function keys or any fancy features. There is nothing to lose. And the adapter I have came with a keyboard, probably with this one. (The other keyboards we have here have function keys like open browser, mail etc... That's definitely not designed for use with an adapter)

But you're right - it would usually cause loss of functionality.

After wasting my money on a couple of USB to PS/2 adapters I dug further and found those adapters [purple or black] only work with keyboards that originally came with them, couldn't use the adapter with just any keyboard. The mice don't seem to have that problem with the green adapter.

So, have you tried it with the PS2 adapter? Did it work?

Not yet, I can't find that adapter :S I found a mouse adapter but that won't work I guess? (It's green and the keyboard one should be purple right?)

I'll post if I happen to find it but that might take a while
