Hello All

Each time I install a new program and ask it to create a shortcut on the desktop it creates it under the public user account.

Is there a way to either disable the public user account or set the default that when a new program creates a desktop shortcut it creates it under my user name?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Seven Forums bhavz. the Public desktop is the All users desktop. Do the programs give you the choice to install for all users, or just automatically dump the shortcut on the Public desktop? You might be able to make the Public desktop read only, but if you are installing as an administrator, it may not make a difference. A Guy

Thanks for the warm welcome.
I do not get any options when the program is installing itself as to where is should create the shortcut, it just asks if I want a shortcut. As I am the only user on the laptop I already have admin rights

I must mention that recently I have re installed win 7 from scratch to get a clean install and not sure if this has any relevance as the system has is now in it's original default state.

Ztruker - I am currently cutting and pasting the links from the c:/user/public/desktop to c:/user/me/desktop

I have just seen that it shows that my desktop is currently shared, If I disable the sharing would the default change to my personal desktop or would I have to anything else?

Thanks for all your help everyone so far.
