Defrag disk

I never defrag disk on this laptop.

I remember doing that long time ago when I had my first PC.

Do you still defrag?

Yes defrag is still done on Hard Disc Drives (HDD) but not on Solid State Drives (SSD). You may find that Windows Defrag is already set to Defrag at regular intervals.

You can check that by clicking on the Start Button, select All Programs, then scroll down to Accessories, click on that, then scroll down to System Tools & will see Disc Defragmenter listed. Click on that & see what it says about your defrag state.

Is it very fragmented?. After 10 years it probably is.

Your hard drive/s should always be 0% Fragmented.

Click on analyze to get the result. The more a drive gets fragmented, the slower your PC will be.

You don't have to defrag; you could go forever without defragging your drive. But over time, if defrag is never run, your hard drive will get more and more fragmented. At some point, the fragmentation will get so bad that drive access time will get noticeably slower. Also, if you ever need to do data recovery on your hard drive, the more fragmented the drive is, the less likely you will be able to successfully recover your data.

If Windows is automatically defragging your drive, then you don't have anything to worry about, because it won't be very badly fragmented, if at all. If you initiate a defrag, you will be able to see immediately how fragmented the drive is.

Running defrag in Safe Mode is a lot faster than running it in normal mode.
