I am using Defragger to defrag my computer. I have always been happy with it until now It does not seem to clean all my files. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you

Defrag is a file organiser on the hard drive, as oscer1 says.

If you want to clean up the hard drive you need to run Windows Disc Cleaner, which is normally found in the Control Panel.

Sorry - What I meant to say was when Defragger is finished and lists zero fragmented files, I still have 7 or 8 thousand fragmented files.

Thank you

...when Defragger is finished and lists zero fragmented files, I still have 7 or 8 thousand fragmented files...
Is this Piriform's Defragger? Based on my experience, let me hazard a theory: I think it has been giving me a Zero when it has defragged all the files that it has determined it could defrag. The files that it determined it could not defrag (for whatever reason set) - is not part of that Zero at the end.

Your OS should have windows defrag set to run on a schedule. You should not need to run another, 3rd party defragger. If your drive is SSD you should not defrag it.

Thank you for replying. I do appreciate it.

Let me assure you that I do not consider myself a computer expert or even computer literate, but what I have noticed is that when my computer starts to get slow one thing I can do to speed it back up is defrag it. Why this works, I do not know, I only know it works.

If you want to boost your laptop, install a SSD.

- Option one: Replace the HDD with a SSD (256 or 512G).
- Option two: Replace your ODD with a HDD caddy. Install a small SSD (120G) for windows and programs and use the HDD for data. You will have the speed of a SSD and the space of a HDD at low cost.

If you take a look at Task Scheduler, you should be able to see if Defrag is enabled, and if so, when it is scheduled to run. You can add or alter the time it runs to whatever you wish. If you have a SSD you don't defrag them.

Upgrading to SSD and more RAM is an excellent way to improve boot, shutdown and overall performance.
