Defrag - Will not run on one drive

Hope someone might be able to help.

Defrag opens and runs on C: fine no issues. On D: it starts, analyses ( way too quick IMHO ) then stops and marks the drive as 26% fragmented. Tried most things I can think of.

I did a search and can’t seem to find anything like this. I do not want to install third party software as this will meet my needs, if it works!

Hi,

* Does it indicate any file name which cannot be moved during defrag @ 26% ?

* If so, just move the file to C: manually and try defrag again !!!.

* If thats not the case, run a Disk check for D: before defrag

Venths I think Voodoo is saying that his Disk Defragmenter is showing that his drive is 26% fragmented and not that it gets to 26% and then stops.

If this is the case Voodoo, boot up in Safe Mode and try and run Disk Defragmenter there.

If that works boot up normally and then try and defrag again.

Yeah right... i didnt realize it, sorry. But still my instructions would help him. If there is any unmovable file which may cause this incomplete defrag

Thanks for the suggestions, however I think there is more amiss than I first thought, either settings or something physical with the drive.

I tried an error check and it came back fine. I have now however noticed that it is not showing used or free space when i get to properties of drive or in My Computer.

Defrag still does it's bit in 2 seconds or so and says its 26% fragmented after its done!

I know I am terribly late to post on this thread but I thought I'd add one thing for anyone who happens upon this issue. I was experiencing the same thing until I emptied the recycle bin. Fragmentation became minus-nil. Hope this helps.
