delay in programs opening

There is a good strait 2min delay between time open a program and time it opens, could this be avast?

I have 4 gigs ram labtop with duel core 1.3mhz 500 gig HD

lots people either say its mother board or the HD.

I say I don't mind but it does bother me, i expect it to be faster... is avast slowing everything down? I have played around with the options on windows to speed it up and I can increase speed a bit but to me as long im not gaming (this is a cheaper labtop) I expect it to be quick...

I open a file and its a delay at least 30 secs. programs 1 -2min if it opens at all. I really want a test to explain issue. I be kinda mad if send it back to toshiba and wait a month to be told its not mother board or they don't cover it or blame it on me.... so I rather fix my self if I can.

should just try fresh install? Seems like anoyance.

If you watch a process monitor log while you wait for a program to open, what do you see happening?

You need to establish what other things are happening at the same time, services and background tasks, also it's worth running some tests to see if your HDD is as healthy as it should be. Have you de-cluttered and defragged recently ?

In addition to the previous suggestions, I'd be looking at cleaning up the junk files that connetion to the internet creates i.e. temp files and you could also look at running any antivirus / spyware/ malware program in case you have picked up some nasties.

All of these suggestions, if they have not been done before, should improve your system performance.

It is more likely to be some of the above rather than a hardware problem that is slowing your system.

It wouldn't hurt to make a fresh install the last solution. It wouldn't be the HDD or the motherboard, most likely not. Run Resource Monitor, by searching it in the start menu. Are you noticing any unusual lag? Firstly, check your Disk, Ram, CPU usage, see if any of each is overused. If any is, try to see what's causing it to.
