Solved delete 1 partition's OS and save other OS

How can I delete a partition with an OS on it? i have a laptop with 2 150 GB partitions. each has Win 7 ultimate on it. I tried to do a clean install after \I deleted win 8 and win 7 but now I have 2 win 7 ultimate on it. I want to deleted one and jut have 2 partitions , one C OS and the other D for whatever I want. I have easeus partition manager and I have acronis 12 and Active @ . I could have taken it to a shop for the price of the software!! But I want to learn myself. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would like to delete D partitions OS and just have empty space for ???

when I try , i get a pop up saying : Win unable to complete the format

It won't format and shouldn't because the System boot files which are booting C are on D now and need to be moved first to C. We can tell this by the System flag.

To do this power down to unplug the D drive and swap its cable to C HD so that it is in Disk0 position which is safest.

Then boot into Win7 DVD System Recovery Options or System Repair Disk to run Startup Repair - Run up to 3 Separate Times which will write the System boot files to C and make other adjustments needed like writing the repair console to F8 boot tools menu.

Once Win7 boots on its own and is marked System Active you can plug back in the other HD making sure C remains first HD to boot in BIOS. I would move the data off the other HD to wipe it with Diskpart Clean Command and then repartition in Disk mgmt.

this is a laptop with a 300 gb hard drive partitioned into 2 150' and then subsequently divided again. I would not know what to unplug at all.

Open up an Elevated Command Prompt

Click on rb: type CMD right click CMD under Programs (1) choose Run as administrator .

   Note

Command prompt should open to C:\Windows\System32>_

Type in the commands below . Press [enter] after each line

Diskpart 
List disk 
Select disk 0
Select partition 1
[note] Partition 1 is now the selected partition [/note]
Format FS=NTFS quick 
Exit
Exit

   Note

Disk 0 Partition 1 is the D drive going by your PrntScrn image of disk management .

The OP should not format or delete the System partition before the boot files are written to C so we know for sure it can boot on its own.

You have two HD"s as shown unless there is a serious misreading by Disk Mgmt. It couldn't have both C and D marked Active otherwise, too, since there can only be one Active flag per disk.

Boot into BIOS setup by tapping the key given for Setup at boot, look under Storage devices to see how many HD's are detected. If it's two as shown in Disk Mgmt, then disable Disk0 temporarily to do the repairs as given earlier.

If BIOS says there is only one HD, then mark D Inactive to run the 3 Startup Repairs with reboots as given earlier, until Win7 boots and C is marked System Active. Make sure you select the Win7 on C to do the repairs when you boot into DVD or Repair CD.

If System files continue on D then you will need to run Diskpart Delete Partition Override on the D partition so that no preceding partition can accept the boot files and they are forced written onto C. (E is Logical so can't host them anyway).

What is on Drive E:\ ? If you don't need that you could just wipe the entire drive with the clean command

He seems to think there is only one HD. We need to clear that up first. Follow the steps I just wrote.

Read over the steps first so you know you understand them and if not ask back any questions until you understand fully. These are the steps developed here since before Win7 was even released and used successfully countless thousands of times.
