In WLM 2011, I've received an email with many attachments (intentional), which I've downloaded. Now, to save space, I'd like to delete the message attachments but save the message. Is this possible in WLM 2011?

Thanks.

Yeah, I suppose I could do that, but then, that messes up searches. Is there any other way, or is this simply not possible in WLM?

interesting question...

i'm still using the older 2009 version of live mail, and if you right-click an attachment, there's a 'remove' option, but it always seems to be greyed out

just found this link though - looks a bit of a long-winded workaround, haven't tested it to see if it works either...

"Add" and "Remove" are grayed out for me, too, on right-clicking the attachment. I wonder why...

Sheesh! Seems like a royal you-know-what to do this. Thanks for the link anyway.

It's actually pretty simple...

At this point in 2015 there is still no software that I can find that will remove Windows Live Mail attachments for you, BUT, with WLM 2011 (and maybe earlier versions) it's actually pretty easy-- WAY easier than what's described in the previous link to Answers.com and leaves the original email otherwise intact.

Drag the email in question to your desktop, and then completely delete the email from WLM.
Open the file in your desktop with Notepad or some text editor.
Look for and delete a huge block of what appears to be random text.
It will follow a couple short lines of text that indicate this part of the content is an image and the file name of the attachment.
Leave those lines before the block and the several lines after the block alone.

Save the file and drag it back into whatever WLM folder you like.
It will look like the email still has an attachment and will display the name of it,
but when you click on the thumbnail, it will say the file can't be found.
