We have the GPO setup at our company which deletes a copy of local profile after 1 day. All our PC are XP Win7

What we are finding is for some reason on log off or on startup it is trying to delete a profile but cant and event viewer show errors either with event code 1533 or 1530

Description:
Windows cannot delete the profile directory C:\Users\<username>. This error may be caused by files in this directory being used by another program.
DETAIL - The directory is not empty.

This isn't happening to all users but we can see many instantance of this issue.

When it cant delete the profile it the goes to put a local copy of the profile in the users folder as username.001, .002 etc

All that is left is a couple of empty folders. (each time the folders are different) the are no security on this folder and they can be delete manually.

Now i did google this and i know this is quite a know issue with the profiles not always being delete. I know about the tools used like uphclean etc which help with this problem alot of people face but its there a permanant fix for this or is this just typical behaviour that we all must live with??

Any help or advice would we great.

Thanks

Steve

Yes that is the setting we have set, and it works for everyone. We are just noticing sometimes it doesn't work successfully on log off or startup and is just giving a few user profile error as the above event ID. I wont to know why this is happening the event do say what it is struggling with and since there in nothing in the folders to delete what is it actually stuggling with?

Yes i know about UPHcleanup as stated in my original post but my question about is this normaly behaviour and therefore you need to use the cleanup programs when trying to delete cached roaming profiles?

Sorry I shuold have re-read your original post.

It sounds like that is the case. I have not implimented this on any sites in the past though so there is nothing that I can personally relate to. From reading a few other forums it does seam like a common occurence.

I can understand why its not working because the profiles wont dismount whilst being used. Offline files apparently also have an affect on this - Do you have these setup on any of the user accounts?
