Greetings and hello. I Googled my problem and found a thread here on this forum which describes it exactly. In it, the poster says:
I have a minor problem that bothers me. I am running Windows 7 Professional. The name of my wireless network is "dd-wrt," but when I am connected it says I am connected to "dd-wrt 2." Obviously, the computer remembers connecting to dd-wrt in the past, but something has changed since then (maybe the password?), so it has had to name the new connection "dd-wrt 2." I can't find where I can get rid of the original dd-wrt, so it will not let me rename the "dd-wrt 2" to just "dd-wrt"
This is exactly the problem I'm having. The only difference (other than the specific SSID name) is that I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit) rather than Professional.

Unfortunately, the response to the question didn't help me:

Go to Network and Sharing Center then look upper left side and choose "manage wireless connections" you can rename or adjust the SSID for each wireless connection there.
What happens when I go to the "manage wireless networks" is that I see only the one SSID named "dd-wrt" (to use the example from the previous poster). And it does not have a "2" next to it. So there's nothing for me to rename or adjust. What am I misunderstanding? Thanks in advance.

OMG, I have fixed this problem! Here's how:

I opened Network and Sharing Center and clicked on the little house icon next to the SSID name. This opened a little dialog box which allowed me to change the name. Sorry to post needlessly. :)
