Hello,
I read @ Microsoft (can't find where it was now) about uninstalling/replacing MMC 3.0 and all the snap ins and replacing from a non corrupted OS. I didn't read the whole article and don't remember if it could be done/taken off of the install disc and uncompressed or whatever. I could replace it while offline if it's that simple..I've run sfc till the cows came home. I want to replace it if possible.

thanks
thanks but that just describes how to normally add and remove snap ins from the console. Since my initial post I have r & r'd the mmc.exe and the 6 .dll's from system 32 and the mmc.exe and 5 .dll's from wow64 but I'm still getting the "target of the invocation of the ..." or whatever it's called error when starting the event viewer. I've read bunches of complaints on the web but no solutions. It's only the event viewer that's doing it. I think maybe it was acronis b & r 11.5 that I allowed to log events to the event viewer that caused it. It's been a year and a half since I installed Acronis and I didn't notice it for 6 months. I've since changed the setting in Acronis but it didn't help, if that was even the cause. I may not have replaced all the components from an offline OS sunce it's hard to find info on where all the pieces are at in the OS ...
