delete Windows live messenger

I have successfully killed windows live messenger for years with the following entry in in the run prompt.

RunDll32.exe advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
this I hace used for years and it worked like a charm to rid myself of this annoyance.
But today, I am getting ever 5 minutes popping up up on my taskbar as closed. I tried logging out and logging in to rid myself of it, and It started up not only in the taskbar but with an open form saying "Welcome back" and "log in"..

I tried rerunning my line in the Run window but, it tells me that it could not find the inf file "c:\windows\inf\msmsgs.inf".

How can I rid myself of this without ever creating an account or logging in. I definatly don't want it, and don't want to give it any of my information.

Oh I looked in the control center Program and features and did not find Windows messager. the closest I found was the following.

Windows live essentials
Windows live sign-in Assistant
Windows live sync
Windows live update tool

Are any of these things the item I want to get rid of?

As far as most recent programs added,
on 01/26/10 I got a toshiba HDD/SDD alert.

I didn't get a problem until today, but possibly they think they want to alert me through the messanger, and the problem did not start until they wanted to send me a message...

Maybe I should delete this?

Hi moosetracker.:)

The location of Windows live messenger has changed with Windows 7.

"Windows Live Essentials" is the umbrella uninstaller for Windows Live Messenger and all the other Windows Live products you may have installed. Go to "Uninstall Programs".

Click on Change/Remove for "Windows Live Essentials" . You'll be asked if you want to Uninstall, or Repair a Windows Live program. Select Uninstall and click Continue.

Make sure that Messenger is checked and click Continue.

That should uninstall WLM from your system.

Hope this helps.;)

You do realize that Windows Messenger only ever shipped (and died for that matter) with XP? Small wonder that little command doesn't work in Windows 7.

In Windows 7 (and Vista for that matter) the only way to get Windows Live Messenger (previously known as MSN Messenger) is to either have installed it yourself, or it came pre-loaded on a pre-built computer (Dell, HP, etc).

I didn't get a problem until today, but possibly they think they want to alert me through the messanger, and the problem did not start until they wanted to send me a message...
You can't get anything through WLM unless it is running and you are logged in. If you're getting WLM alerts and neither of those conditions are present, then I would start looking elsewhere for the source.
