Solved Deleted shortcut link to screen saver is causing a problem on Windows

I installed a screen saver shortcut link and subsequently deleted it a short time later after a driver update solved the power save problem. Now, however, when I click on "Troubleshooting" on the control panel, a box with the following message appears: " Windows cannot find 'C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe' Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again"

If I click on 'OK' in the box, Windows Explorer stops working for a short while. If I just close the box nothing happens.

Can anyone help me with this small annoyance?

Does C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe exist? Unlikely to be really missing as it's a critical system file.

If it's not there, see if you can run sfc /scannow from a Elevated Command Prompt to fix it.

Resolved - Deleted Shortcut Link to Screen Saver ...

Many thanks for your help, Ztruker. I've now fixed the problem - my PC (Asus Win 7 Pro 64 bit) has carried out a repair/reinstatement of rundll32 which I now realize I had inadvertently deleted (!) and binned. The shortcut link was blameless! (I ran sfc /scanfile=C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe - repaired instantly)
