Deleting files & thumbnail previews on RC...

Hi guys.

Just installed the RC last night, very impressed! However there's two things I'd like to do atm.

Firstly, not an issue just down to RC, but seeing as though I'm going to be sticking with this build for a while I might as well see if there's a solution... I want to turn the taskbar thumbnail previews off! Can't think of their real name lol for me, they just get in the way. Any ideas?

Secondly... I have Windows.old000 from an earlier W7 build. I have 9.4Gb of crap in there that I don't need anymore. I want to delete it, but it won't let me! I messed around with permissions for nearly an hour and eventually "took control" of the folder myself and gave full control, but it still won't have it. Tried dragging it to the Recycle Bin, it comes up with some error like D:\...$Recycle Bin (can't remember the full thing, at work right now) and I even tried to delete through DOS, it seemed to work but in reality actually done nothing. Any help appreciated as I need the space! Thanks.

Part one of your question is surprisingly involved - but it can be done - if I understand you right. You basically want the old-school taskbar? The kind that grouped windows into stacks? Or do you mean the 'QuickBar'?

The second part is much trickier - but try this;

1. Click Start
2. Select All Programs
3. Select Accessories
4. Click System Tools
5. Pick Disc Cleanup
6. Select Files from all users on this computer
7. Confirm the UAC
8. Select the drive that contains your old installation
9. One of the options will be to delete your old installation. Select it and
let the Disc Cleanup Utility do its thing.

Let us know if that works.

Windows.old is your old installation which contains the old windows folder, program files and appdata which contains setup data for all the programs you had installed.

So if your sure you dont want that data, then follow this guide: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1911-take-ownership-shortcut.html?ltr=T and then you should be able to delete it.

Hi mate regarding the previews I mean like this...

Don't want them when I hover over a program on the taskbar!

Against my second point, it's a good idea, but... I have two old installations. Windows.old which is from the beta, and Windows.old000 which is from a 69xx build. If I do what you're saying will it delete both? As I'd rather keep the beta information. But if there's no other way I might just back up and go for it!

Thanks. Is it any different than right clicking going into properties and "taking ownership" the long way? As this didn't work for me. But I'll give it a go anyway!

Yeah I've just had a look around and noticed there are other posts about it actually, should of looked first hopefully someone will come up for a fix if so many people want the option to turn it off!?
