I transfered a folder across to my PC and anyway I cannot delete it with my Mac or PC, come up with "You require permission from Administrators to make changes to this folder"

I have tried changing permissions and have not found any programs that can do it.

Thanks Samuel

Folder Delete

Option 1) Remove the hard drive from this computer and install it in another computer as a slave drive. Use that OS to navigate to the drive you just installed and delete the folder.
Option 2) Boot a Live *NIX CD (i.e. Ubuntu) and use it to navigate to your drive and delete the folder.
Option 3) Use one of the many free utilities to schedule the folder to be deleted on re-boot.

It is a security problem. Are you logged in as a Admin? If yes, try changing the ownership of that folder to your account. You can do this by right clicking, properties, security, advanced, owner tab, select ur user account and click on apply, ok, ok, ok. Then try to delete it.

@ Dre@ms. When changing permissions, tells me access denied.

@ WindowsStar. It is a stripe RAID configuration so I cannot stick it in another computer.
Just booted into Ubuntu, doesn't show up. Back in windows, RAID configuration no longer existent, separate disks :@ I don't know HTF that happened. ARGH!

Well that blows everything out of the water. Gotta love technology!!! Back to square1 for that/those drive(s).

changing the ownership is the only way i knew of. cos, I do that everytime when the folder is copied from another system or drive.
BTW, are you logged in as the default admin? the one which is created by 7 and hidden?

I am not exactly sure what you mean. I created my own account when I installed the system. No other accounts till I activated the user "Administrator" by CMD and typing "net user administrator /active:yes" which didn't work either.

Hi firemansam87,

Run the take ownership script. Then right click on the folder and select take ownership.
The other script is to remove this function.

After the script is run, you may also wish to open an elevated CMD prompt and remove any read only, system and hidden attributes.
ATTRIB -r -s -H /S /D C:\YourFolderPath\YourFolder\*.xxx

Now try to delete.

Good Luck

Tim

Thanks for your help, but is no longer required. The RAID configuration of the drives that had the folder I wanted to delete failed after I booted into Ubuntu. So I have to start from scratch again with those drives.

Thanks again, have a good 2010!!!

Thanks TimStitt, I will keep in mind if it happens again.

Ouch on the RAID. I have never had a problem with Ubuntu and RAID. I have used version 08 thru 09 and have never had a problem. Even on servers.

If you have not started rebuilding it there are a few things you can do to try a recovery.

Is it a hardware or software RAID and what version?? RAID 1, RAID 5 etc. ??

Now this is creepy, I configured the HDD's again in the RAID utility (hardware). Windows asked my to format one drive. Canceled as I wanted to try something else. But didn't work.
Anyway just noticed the drives have come back together and show the existing files. Tried deleting the folder I was having trouble with, and had no problems.... weird!

Thanks for your help guys, even if it wasn't the way we intended it to work.
