Dell 922 (All In One) not compatible with Win 7, help!

After the reboot is complete it successfully prints what was in the print queue before I rebooted.

Then after that reboot (and the printing of what jobs were in the queue) when I try to print the same thing happens as before - the jobs collect in the print queue and they won't print. Then when I then do another reboot the items print after the reboot is complete.

After reading nabilalk's question (from my XP machine) I turned on the Windows 7 Acer Aspire 5532 laptop. Once it was finished booting I opened my Word test file and tried to print it 3 times. It did not print any of the 3 attempts, but the 3 jobs did appear in the print queue (http://gregburrus.com/stuff/three.jpg).

I then closed the print queue (I did not cancel the print jobs), closed Word, and rebooted. Once the laptop was done printing all 3 print jobs printed perfectly fine.

While they were printing (there was a slight pause of about 5 seconds between each print) I tried to open the print queue through the shortcut icon in the taskbar that appears when a print job is pending/printing, but there was none. I wasn't fast enough to open it through the Start Menu while it was still printing.

What could be causing the print jobs to just hang out in the queue not printing, but then print successfully after a reboot?

When you have that print queue hang up, what happens when you restart the pc and then try to print again after reboot?

It is strange that your printing queue is saved after a reboot.

Thanks, pebbly. I went where you directed and here's what I found: http://gregburrus.com/stuff/allow.jpg

The right-most box ("Dell Photo AIO Printer 922 Properties") is where I got after following pebbly's directions. There is a check mark in the "Print" and "Manage this printer" row for every group/user name listed (Everyone, CREATOR OWNER, SYSTEM, K.., Administrators (K..\Administrators), Guests (K..\Guests, INTERACTIVE).

Then I clicked "Advanced" and got the middle box ("Advanced Security Settings for Dell Photo AIO Printer 922"). The "Type" for everything listed appears to be set to "Allow."

Then I highlighted the first row (the one in the gray bar; "Everyone, Manage documents") and clicked "Edit." I got the left-most box ("Permission Entry for Dell Photo AIO Printer 922").

As you can see, the "Allow" column for both "Print" and "Manage this printer" is NOT checked. I checked them both and clicked "OK" (OK button not visible in the screen grab). This box closed and I was taken back to the center box ("Advanced Security Settings for Dell...").

To check my work I clicked "Edit" on the first row again (the one in the gray bar; "Everyone, Manage documents") and the "Permission Entry..." box (the left-most box) opens again.

When it opened the two checkmarks I just placed in the "Allow" column for "Print" and "Manage this printer" are gone.

Again, here is my screengrab for my above explanations: http://gregburrus.com/stuff/allow.jpg

I have a piece of information I just realized may be important or helpful here. My wife is a schoolteacher, and on this laptop she has two possible "users" from which to choose upon bootup, her user profile ("K") and a "student" user profile (if "user profile" is the correct term): http://gregburrus.com/stuff/users.jpg

For fun I logged in as "student" (in all my previous posts I'd been logging in as "K," which is her user profile) and it was able to print and scan perfectly fine with no problems whatsoever.

So I guess that means that in the "K" user profile something in the Start--> Control Panel--> Hardware and Sound--> Devices and Printers--> right click on Dell AIO 922--> Printer Properties--> Security tab is wrong. Am I right?

If yes, how exactly would I go about finding which box/boxes is/are the culprit?

Also, how exactly would I change whatever's wrong and have the changes stay applied (and not revert back to what it was before)?

Thanks for everyone's help. It looks like we're getting close. Sorry for my delay in response - I was away at jury duty.

Dell 922 AIO printer/HP compaq note book

Initially nothing worked for me until I came across your tips. I have done everything like you outlined below. Only the scanner worked. I can't print any document. I get this reponse " the driver for Dell photo AIO 922 is not installed"...I have unistalled the R151371 and R166239, removed the printer and start the whole steps from the beginning with no success..please advice..Thank you.

The Dell 922 driver works fine on two of our system. There are two downloads available from the Dell site. One includes the driver and software, R151371.exe. This is the one you want. The trick with installing this printer is you have to execute the file first and then connect the printer when it tells you. Don't start by connecting the printer first and letting Windows find the drivers.

Since you already have the printer installed you need to uninstall it first. The best way is to run the patch from the same Dell driver download site. The file is R166239. Run this file, reboot, then run the R151371 file to install the printer.

I have two of these printers attached to two different computers and they both print and scan fine. On the one computer we did an upgrade installation from Vista and it didn't work at all after the upgrade. Running the patch and re-installing did the trick.

Good luck.
Thank you for sharing your experience with the printer. Were you able to get the Dell All-In-One center to work as well? Also, would you mind posting links to the files you are referencing? Thank you.

Well, I was never able to fix my issue. Rather, I wasn't able to find a fix before my wife got fed up and bought a new printer (that solved the problem for sure). Thank you very much to everyone for all their input and help - here's hoping those who have this problem have solved it.
