Solved Dell E152FPc Video Mode

I just bought a used LCD monitor from a neighbor who periodically comes to the door peddling one thing or another, with the hope of replacing my old CRT monitor that I use for my secondary desktop display.

Since it has a VGA connection, I hooked it up exactly as I did with the old monitor, but when I power it up, it just displays a black screen with the message "Cannot Display This Video Mode"

I went to the Device Manager and reinstalled the monitor, but it appears that it is using the same Generic Non-PnP driver as before with no change in display.

Does this monitor require a specific driver, or is something else wrong?

Sounds like the monitor can't handle such a high resolution

I got it partially fixed, by reducing the resolution to 1280x800, but that tends to squeeze the desktop in the horizontal axis, so that the gadget clock that I use is an oval, instead of a circle as it should be. Still looking for a complete solution.

Didn't notice till now, but there the image has some very faint waves moving vertically up the screen.

I changed the resolution to 1024x768 and that seems to have taken care of the problems. I'm rather surprised that it can't handle a higher resolution, but I guess I consider the problem solved. Thanks for the input.

If you check the specs on the Dell E152FPc, you'll see that its native resolution is 1024X768. It's a 15" monitor.

Solved it is.

Even though it is smaller than my old CRT, it is easier to see. At least I don't have to squint to read text on it, and videos are much brighter. Now to decide whether to put the old monitor in the dumpster, or closet it.
