Hello all!

I want to report that I successfully installed Windows 7 Home Premium x64 on my Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop.

Only driver needed was latest Nvidea driver for Geforce 8600M GT.
You have to enable Aero manualy, I forgot how I did it ;-)

A very minor driver isue is still not solved, but overall everything works great.

Experience Index 4.7, well I am satisfied with the way Windows 7 Feels and look.

Another thing I am investigating is why Windows Vista is still in the boot menu, and this while I deleted the vista partition and formated it before clean install.

Questions are always welcome, I will try to answer them.

Have a nice day!

Touch pad?

I was wondering if you've found a work around for the touch pad. I installed W7 home premium 64-bit. The scroll bars on my touch pad don't work any more. I looked for a driver for it and no help from dell. Any input would be most appreciated.

What kind of Touchpad do you have? Alps or something else. If you post the service tag # for the laptopwe can look on the Dell web site to find that info, then download a Win 7 X64 driver for it from almost anywhere.

See here: Alps Touch Pad driver for Win 7 64bit

I it is a Dell Touchpad. I can't find anything on the system configuration page. The line for the key board says "Keyboard, 101, United States English, Single Pointing Adriatic" I don't know if that gives you the info for the touchpad.

Provide the service tag# and we can look at the ship document to see what was included. That should tell us.

Also,
  • Open Device Manager - (Control Panel, System, Hardware tab, Device Manager)
  • Expand the each entry that has a yellow ! next to it.
  • Double click on each one in turn
  • Click on the Details tab
  • Make sure Device Instance Id is selected in the drop down box
  • Click on the line that starts with PCI\Ven_ then press Ctrl+C to copy it to the clipboard
  • Start a reply here and paste the copied data in it.
It will look something like this: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2449&SUBSYS_30138086&REV_01\4&2B96F39&0&40F0
