gang I'm having trouble helping someone with this N7010 model Inspiron.
what chipset does the non-ATI model have and can you guys direct me to the best Video driver to use for the model? having lots of issues getting Sync'd to HDTV or other external monitors over HDMI...
very stubborn about loading drivers from intel so the path, I think, is to completely eradicate the Dell driver stack, uninstall the device, use Win7 x64 Device Manager to install from a folder that we would pull from Intel's Zip wad.

but which? tried several and failed. part of the issue is nailing down exactly which chipset/proc/HD version is in play... the topline description of the driver packages at Intel Download center don't tell one whether its Generation 1 or 2 or now 3 necessarily so we only find out at the unpacking stage via the notes.

sheesh.... this shouldn't be this difficult

Looking at the Dell downloads, there are many video options. You will need to know exactly what you have.

Access the Dell downloads using your service tag and the download list will show the original hardware configuration and type of video. www.support.dell.com I would start with the Dell driver download and work from there. The Dell may fix your problems.

SPECCY (free program) will profile your hardware and should show what you have. Speccy - System Information - Free Download

dell did not do their homework on this gen... I"ve been through it before on other models. the vid drivers they show for Intel vid [which is what is in the model I'm dealing with] were very buggy as to HDCP sync capability. the intel version of the ULV 11z was in the same gen - same issue. if one uses the dell drivers you don't get hdmi. fail. dell unresponsive. if you don't completely fumigate the dell remnants the intel package will halt [the self-install version]. its looking for the OEM flag.

Have you tried first installing the Intel motherboard chipset drivers and then the video? The chipset drivers are key to a successful install as one of the prime things it does is properly identify all the devices on or attached to the motherboard.

Have you been on the Dell community (users helping users) forum? If this is a common problem with Dell's one of the guru's there should have info on this. Laptop - Dell Community
I used to work that support board, but in the desktop section. I had a Dell and had customers with Dell's so I kept up with them. I no longer have a Dell so I dropped out.

been there done that and have the emails to show :)
the chipset drivers are installed fine.
dell disregards the problem. too far in the past.
on a previous system [my own - sold] the 2nd level tech support people were convinced there was a hardware issue [dumb]. i finally remedied the problem but it took awhile to find the right driver - on that one since it was a ULV model it was a tad easier to find the right drvr package. told the dell manager what the solution was and got a bunch of apologies.

this one is not ulv model and all sorts of tricks I've tried to get the right search response so far defeated. one has to dig down in the notes to see that the driver set only covers either 2nd generation core or 1-2 generation. arrandale is 'zero generation' prior to sandy.
