Have a new-to-me refurbished Dell Latitude E6420 I'd like to add a Microsoft Comfort Mouse to utilize its features. When trying to add what I think is the correct driver loaded onto a flash drive the installation seems to stop about half way through.
This laptop is NOT connected to the 'net, not sure when/if it ever was being honest. Is that necessary to download and install the correct drivers?
BTW this laptop will function mostly as a very nice and powerful address book to retrieve contact info for my customers. It will NEVER function as a connected computer, will stay in the work truck just about 24/7.
TIA

When plugging in the mouse, the basic mouse functions should automatically work. I.e. moving the mouse and the right and left buttons. The driver is only required for advanced mouse functions. If the mouse does not do the basic functions when plugged in, there might be something wrong with the mouse itself, or else the laptop port it is plugged into. If the new driver doesn't work, or the mouse doesn't work when you plug it in, try a different port. If that still doesn't work, take a screen shot of device manager with the "Mice and Other Pointing Devices" expanded and post it here, please.

I'll try your suggestions post haste Mellon Head, will report back soon.................
The usual or normal mouse functions work fine, the mouse itself was temporarily switched from another computer where all it was working as expected. So far I've tried three other brand new mice of the same brand and type, fairly certain its not those devices.
Will return...............

So after a few more attempts to download the MS Mouse & Keyboard Center software my laptop seems to be missing a needed component not yet part of the OS; NET.Framework.
Can that be safely downloaded and installed without causing any operating issues?
