My dell Inspiron mini 1018 crashed so I got a new hitachi HD and installed it, when I put the dell OS CD (win 7 starter x32) in the external DVD/CD drive it tells me no OS found and can't see the CD, I changed the boot order to boot from the cd but still nothing, I put in a windows xp CD and it all boots up as it should and will install. I even FDiSK the HD with win 98. Is it the DVD/cd drive? I just dont get it.. Any help would be great.

It's probably your disc. Did you burn it yourself? Try reburning it at a low speed.

Then I'd guess something is amiss with the computer.

Extract the ISO from the Dell DVD using ImgBurn - CNET Download.com
to write to flash stick using Universal USB Installer – Easy as 1 2 3 | USB Pen Drive Linux with Win7 in dropdown menu.

Boot it to http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html#post1839164.

You can also use the latest Home Premium official installer ISO from that tutorial to reinstall, but must first run the Ei.cfg Removal Tool on it to unlock all versions before burning to DVD: http://lifehacker.com/5438005/eicfg...-use-any-product-key-with-your-windows-7-disc
