Just wondering if anyone has taken these old workstations and upgraded or remodeled them into a machine running Windows 7 professional?

I inherited a couple as projects and I am wondering after I wipe the hard drives, what would be the best image to deploy?

They both currently have 4G of memory, and a Pentium 4 3.80 CPU.

I want to keep the cost to a minimum.

Thanks!

The cost will be for a copy of Win7, can't use what is already installed on another computer. I have a similar Dell Optiplex 755 that came with Vista that is running Linux Mint 17 64-bit quite happily and my wallet is happy because Linux is free. Because I have a couple of Win7 Desktops [a Custom and a rescued Dell Inspiron] and a Custom Win8.1 Desktop already I don't plan to redo the Optiplex any time soon but maybe after Win9 comes out?

I use the free GPARTED bootable CD [created from the downloaded .iso file] to wipe HDDs so as to have a fresh start.

I used a Dell Precision 370 for several years running Windows 7 Pro X64. Upgraded to Windows 8.0 Pro X64 but it would not run Windows 8.1 X64 do to hardware support requirements change by Microsoft. It would run the X86 Windows 8.1 though.

I maxed the memory to 4GB and added a decent video card so I could run AERO under Windows 7 which I like.

Dell Precison 370 Service
3.4Ghz Pentium 4 1 Core, 2 Logical Processors
4GB RAM
Nvidia GEForce GTS 240 1GB

I also added a 128GB SSD which also ran very well.
