Hi everyone,

My name is Tarun. I have been facing an issue with my newly purchased battery. I did not use my laptop for an year or so because my battery was dead and i didn't even remove that dead battery from the laptop, it was kept inserted for an year. A few days ago I purchased a new battery. When I turned on my laptop with the new battery and tried to charge it, I saw its charged percentage as 7%, I thought that it will be fully charged within an hour or so but it didn't. Although, when I hover the mouse on the battery icon ( right bottom under the tray ), it displays the message as 7% available (plugged in, CHARGING )....Please note, i wrote "charging".

To my surprise, percentage of "battery charging" never increases, I do not know what's wrong with it. Adapter works fine, windows runs fine, everything seems to be working fine.

I discussed with a naive person who repairs laptops. He wasnt sure of the fault but he guessed that that there could be a problem with charging IC. I didn't agree with him because of two reasons, 1st- he is a naive person, 2nd- If charging IC has a problem then it shouldn't have displayed the message " plugged in, CHARGING".

I am pretty much frsutrated and dissappointed. Could someone please help me and let me know what should be/ can be done?

thanks & regards
Tarun Bajpai

Hi Tarun Bajpai,

Welcome to Seven forums.

I apologize for all the inconvenience this issue has caused and promise you that I will do my best to resolve this issue to your satisfaction.

It seems to be an issue with the battery itself. Let us know if you have purchased the battery from us as if required we can arrange it to be replaced.

Also, check this link below for troubleshooting battery issues with the system:

Hi Sandeep,

Thank you so very much for your response, much appreciated. honestly I wasn't expecting any response :) .
Just fyi...about the purchasing of battery...I went to a Dell store to purchase but they told me that battery has to ordered and purchased online. I was running out of time and didn't have time to go through this a bit time taking process, so, I went to purchase it from a wholesale dealer. He assured me that battery is genuine and gave me warranty for one year. He also asked me to check it on Dell's website if battery is genuine.

The most important thing which i forgot to mention earlier, I tried two batteries on my machine. Both of them were new but to no avail, I still get the same issue which made me think that my laptop may have issue and battery itself works fine. When I check the battery's health status, it shows that battery's is okay and working fine.

Sandeep I sincerely need help.

thanks & regards

Hi Tarun

If possible try to run the battery that you have bought in some other laptop (if that is available). Atleast this way you will come to know if the culprit is battery or the laptop.

Hi Archer,

Thanks for your response but your suggestion didn't work either :(, I had brought my laptop to the office and asked IT guy to try my battery in some other Studio 1558. He did, but to no avail. I have seen that there are other threads with same issue as mine are floating around but none of them has a definite solution.

So your IT guy attached your battery to a new laptop and still your battery was again showing, plugged in charging? Have you tried to use the laptop on battery without charging it? Maybe, your battery is getting charged but, in the status bar message the percentage of the battery is not increasing (just a guess). Try to use the laptop on battery and see how long it lasts. If this is the case, try to update the software (if any) for this utility.

Hi Tarun Bajpai,

I appreciate the time and effort that you took to troubleshoot the issue. I understand that you have checked two batteries on the system. Kindly let us know if both the batteries showed the same issue.

And is any one of the battery is purchased directly from us. The reason I am asking because there are many compatible batteries which are available in the market. However, they are not OEM batteries and sometimes cause this issue.

Also, let us know if you are using the genuine AC adapter that was supplied along with the system. If you had taken the laptop at office did you try check it with a different AC adapter to isolate the issue.

Also, if you are able to charge the battery more than 10 percent then you can try updating the BIOS from the link below:

BIOS

Keep us posted with the results so we can advise you further.
