Dell W7 Pro Upgrade Kit

Looking for a way to save some money, I found a person who is offering these kits, which he claims will work on any PC, is that true? Would this kit differ in what it has versus a copy directly from MS, other than the fact that it is x64 only? Would the key from this kit work to install from my MS DVDs?

Should be fine, Dell ships two discs for the upgrade; a vanilla windows 7 upgrade and an applications and drivers disc. The upgrade works on any computer, and I can't find any visible Dell branding.

You may be correct, but the ad for this says:

2) Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-bit installation DVD


This upgrade kit is from Dell, but WORKS PERFECTLY ON ANY COMPUTER!

One would think that if a second disk for drivers and apps were included, it would have been listed in the contents. If there were any kind of installation problem, would the Dell key work with a MS DVD?

EDIT: I just thought of another aspect...I bet this would install as OEM, thus only be good for one installation.

Upgrade kit keys are supposedly locked to the underlying Vista OEM license which can only be used on that hardware.

The Upgrade is OEM version which is never able to be activated on another machine anyway.

Try it to see for yourself. Dell is usually different.
