It'a an Inspiron 560MT desktop, which is about a month off its fifth birthday, and there have been a few episodes recently including this, and some requests to repair the computer have been seen.
I am thinking, therefore, if it may be time to swap the machine and upgrade to Windows 10. What do you think, and is Dell still the way to go, or is there something with the current specs of better value?
BTW gaming does not interest me at all.

I have both HP and Dell and do not see any difference in quality. My HP box has a bit more room to work on - e.g. for adding disks. In laptops I like my Gateways.

Hi,
Depends on what you define "supports" means really
A desktop is quite different from a laptop fewer special drivers are needed on a desktop
What I translate that to mean is what you'd need to do is clean install what ever os you wanted to use basically
10 would often require that anyway after the upgrade has occurred.
I have a 6 y.o. Acer supposedly not compatible or not supported anymore by Acer but I tested win-10 for nearly 9 months without any need for anything from Acer
You need very little if anything from Dell anymore.
Then after that is done to a totally separate hdd and disconnected from the machine,
Upgrade to 10.
Beside win-10 usual bugs I'm sure it will function long enough to clean install 10 on a new ssd or hdd Windows 10 - Clean Install - Windows 10 Forums
