Since purchasing windows 7 I have been having nightmares printing DVD labels.
my hp photo smart copier is not compatible with 7 I was told to purchase Roxio by HP that would not work, only design pro works, but it kept stalling and saying there was a problem while i was creating labels, and then shutting me down. However i did mention to print labels eventually, but now it give me the error message straight away, there is a problem Microsoft will get back if they find a solution, there is not one has they do not come back, has anyway else got this problem. First, the problem is not Windows or Microsoft. Your hardware and applications software have to be compatible, not Windows must be compatible.

If you are using older software, try running the software in a compatibililty mode, such as Windows XP compatibility mode. The compatibility mode, sometimes, will allow older software with compatibility problems to work.

If it's older incompatible hardware your ONLY option is to replace it with Windows 7 compatible devices.

As HP has only made a couple recent model Printers (actually all in one devices) that will print directly on ink-jet printable CD and DVD's I assume you are making paper labels. Paper labels should never be used on discs due to their propensity to flake off and cause equipment failures. Most DVD players state in their operating manuals to not use discs with paper labels. Same way most automobile in-dash CD players have warnings not to use paper label CD's.

I would suggest replacing the old, and apparently not compatible, HP with a current model Epson that will print directly on ink jet printable CD and DVD's. It will give you a compatible device and eliminate the potential problems of paper labels.

Hi thanks for replying but the HP Printer all in one i have is about 15 months old and is supposed to print onto a disc, but HP have told me it is not compatible with windows 7. I was told by HP to purchase Roxio but that turned out not to work with the HP, it might work with Epsom, but do you really think it is fair that we now have to purchase new printers because HP did not make drivers for windows 7.

Avery design Pro worked for a while printing paper labels on the HP Printere, but now i keep getting the message there is a problem and if windows get an answer they will let me know, which is strange because others are saying it works for them

I can’t even print the paper ones now, and really wish i had stayed with my xp computer and Microsoft windows xp professional which worked with everything.

I have spent hours with HP trying to find a solution until they admitted there wasn’t one. Sheree

printing labels

Hi thank you for your help, I will certainly try to set up the printer as you advised.
But for the moment i contacted avery and they told me to uninstall and reinstall the design pro. When i tried to print a label I had made previously I got the error message, however when I made a label from scratch although I had to align it it printed ok.I just used print i did not set the printer to print labels. Hope this helps others who are having problems with printers. kind regards Sheree

I use "Discus" labeling software. It is Win 7 compatible and also HP compatible. I have Epson printers that print on CD/DVD's. They have a downloadable demo version, I have the full paid version.

Discus labelling software

If the HP is Vista compatible it should also be Win 7 compatible. Have you tried installing the HP in a Vista compatiblity mode? if it won't install in Win 7?

thefave,

I'm also having problems with Avery Design Pro and Windows 7, 64 bit....now the program will not even send to the printer.

I have never heard of Virtual XP so this is very confusing to me. There are 2 links you provided. Are we suppose to follow the instructions in one link and then open the other link and follow those instructions?

I would deeply appreciate any help you can provide. :)
